Perfect comparison. He wanted to be a 3 but was really a frontcourt player because he lacked the ball-handling, passing, and outside shooting consistency while he was a difference maker and match-up nightmare in the paint against smaller 3/4s and bigger/slower 4/5s.
Doolittle was the better overall player. He could handle, get his own shot, great rebounder, and defender the 3-5. He had some weaknesses but overall a more impactful player than Moore. Not as good an NBA prospect...
Btw -- Jalon Moore with a 39" max vert and one of the fastest 3/4 court sprint times ... but slow agility drills and mediocre shooting. He'll make the G League. Will be interesting to see if he can defend or handle well enough to make a roster.
He reminds me some of Westbrook's early years. He won't touch Westbrook's career numbers in the NBA, but he'll be a guy who can stay in the league for a long time.
Those two guys are not in the same arena. Loved Cousins, but Fears was a significantly better and more impactful player as an 18 year old that Cousins was as a 22-23 year old.
Ere looked so silky smooth but just did not shoot it consistently enough to get a shot in the NBA. Had good size and athleticism but never got there shooting wise.
My take is:
1-3 IMPRESSIVE year
4-7 Fair goal based on roster and SEC coming back to earth
8-9 Screw these seeds
10+ Terrible unless we make it to the second weekend...
Watched some videos this week of the new guys (including Nwankwo and Jones) and had a few thoughts:
Range and space - We've got a lot of guys who are dangerous out to NBA range. Brown, Pack, Jones, and Nwankwo all show the ability to space the floor with shots beyond the arc.
Improvement on...
This guy is interesting. 6'8" 225 but passing like he's Terrell Everett. Looks like a solid player with good size but where's he going to play. seems a little more in the 3/4 mold than the 4/5 mold.
