Our TO’s were more to do than the fouls… on top of beers playing in the low post while allowing her girl to go set screens on the 3 pt line. This is why I have a hard time watching women's basketball. I will never understand how fouls are or in large part not called. The refs swallow their whistles in the third really helped UCONN pull away. That is with our regression back to a turnover machine.
She single handedly outscored our entire team in the 2nd half.I’m oversimplifying by not going into details, but the bottom line is they had Paige & we didn’t. With Juju out, she’s the best player left in the tournament (& there’s a legit argument that she was anyway, Juju or no Juju). Sometimes you just have to tip your cap.
Agree, Chavez will help but if the rest of the kids (or coach) don’t figure the other out… she won’t help that much.Don’t understand the refusal to hedge (switch) on the free throw pick. Seriously—. Our strategy is to just allow a hall of fame guard to shoot 8-10 foot uncontested jumpers every possession. Craziest strategy I’ve seen in a long time. Then pkay off of her to stop the dribble i guess and let her shoot uncontested 3s whever she wants.
Weirdest game. Hard to understand what we are even attempting to do. It isn’t hard to get the ball into the low post. Just use low cross picks and ball reversal. Muffin was basically saying this at half. Posting beers at the high post is bizarre too. Be interesting to know what the theory was on that.
Oh well. Good year altogether. If chavez is a point that will help immensely
It happens in men's basketball, especially in the SEC, all the time. This is why I have a hard time watching women's basketball. I will never understand how fouls are or in large part not called. The refs swallow their whistles in the third really helped UCONN pull away. That is with our regression back to a turnover machine.
Agree… I was thinking of the word… lol.. boneheaded, but “unforced” is the word. Just was drawing a blank. All in all, it was a good year.
I like Jennie as a coach. But imo she will have a ceiling as a coach, regardless of better talent unless she can address judgment issues related to passing the ball. Its not turnovers that are the problem but mindless turnovers or what I would call just silly judgment turnovers. Somewhere soonerinkc said he thinks this about 35% of our turnovers. Just speculation but I would agree with this. Probably about right.
mindless meaning passes without purpose, passing to players out of position, passing at silly angles and entry passes to the paint to players other than posts
Mindless meaning dribbling directly in front of players in press man to man defensive positions ( see the movie glory road, you will know what i am talking about). There will be turnovers in basketball. Some basic fundamentals imposed by inviolate rules on dribbling and passing, that are enfirced by lack of playing time is how the vast majority of coaches do it. Don’t allow kids to use their discretion in certain situations
Funny thing is some of Jennie’s players instinctively use good fundamentals ( peyton and tot).
The above comments where just for discussion. Like i said i like jennie. I certainly think we are going invthe right direction. And it could very will be that better point guard pkay could have a big impact on our turnovers problem
I am very confident and optimistic about next year
