#15 OU vs ORU 4pm 11/7

38-17 at the end of Q1. That was a perfect Jennie quarter..we played ultra fast with few turnovers. Kiersten Johnson had 8 points to lead us and she was very good.

Still not seeing Kelbie on the bench or on the floor.

Still, Sooners looking very good.

I wonder if Kelbie is ill with flu/covid/something contagious that would keep her from being with the team for a few days? She’s still listed on the roster. Kaley Perkins is on the bench in street clothes :/

We set the record for points in a quarter! And only had ONE turnover in the quarter!!!

67-37 at half. 60% shooting and only 5 turnovers. Balanced scoring Tot and Madi 11, Vann 10 and Johnson 9. Complete half.

83-58 at the end of Q3. I thought we lost intensity some to start the quarter. Also just missed some open 3s. Need to have a good quarter to end the game.

105-94 final. Played worse in Q4 than in Q3 and we were out scored 57-38 in the second half. Really poor defense in the second half particularly poor around the rim. Have to learn to keep the intensity up and play smart and hard all 40 minutes. Some good video to watch to both see how we want to play and also mistakes that will get us beat by better opponents.

Unforced turnovers were rampant.

Watched the entire game, and I never saw a perimeter shot by Oral Roberts that was actually guarded. There probably was one guarded, but I didn't see it. Running at someone helps them shoot the ball, it doesn't constitute defense. It is actually the opposite, it is "no-defense". You defend a perimeter shot by making them dribble the ball. Kids, particularly girls, just shoot the ball too well to let them shoot. Oral roberts shot the same percentage in warmup as they did in the game. If you are playing any defense, the percentage should go down.

On the bright side, the conditioning of the girls was light years better. I thought every girl on the team last year carried unneeded weight. They all look really fit. So, good on who ever got that done.

Individually, I thought all the kids looked improved from a skill perspective.

We are way way way more athletic. I like the look of the freshman point (r scott) and the both freshman tall girls. Could see all three being really good in the years to come and will definitely help this year.

And, as I have said before, JMO, but Madi is the best woman's player in the college game. She is a baller.

So, who knows. We will have to play better defense to reach any really high goals but in any event, we should be a good team.

From the post game press conference on Kelbie:
If she has any update on Kelbie Washington: “Yeah, I don't have an update today. So, it's still an undetermined time. But they're letting us know she's okay. But yeah, we don't know when she will return.

Considering she hasn’t been on the bench that is consistent with a concussion with lingering symptoms. Hope she gets better quickly.

Though I wouldn't call a concussion "good news," it IS good to know that Kelbie is gonna be okay and will return to the team at some point.

Also, I believe the young ladies lost interest in the second half. While that's certainly not a good thing, it's somewhat to be expected considering that humongous lead they built in the first half.

I thought the long blond haired girl was Perkins. Was that the portal transfer girl (joens ?)? Whoever it was, I thought she looked like a good player.

Joens played Monday and hit 2 3s in 19 minutes of playing time. Perkins was on the bench in street clothes..my guess is a minor injury but I have not seen any quotes from Jennie on why she is not playing.

Thanks Soonercuda

Joens looks like a very solid player.

Jennie's hardest task may be deciding who to play and how many minutes to give the various non-starters.

You figure Madi, TRob, (our small point -- name escapes me), then probably anna, maybe Liz, maybe Joens, maybe Tucker, maybe one or more of the freshman (I like scott, and both tall girls).

I do think it would be a mistake not to develop a solid rotation and just willy nilly substitute throughout the year. When you do that, you just don't develop any cohesiveness. On the other hand, you are going to make some kids mad due to reduced minutes.

I agree, the freshmen all look promising, except Cooper and only because I haven't seen her play much yet. I hope they all stick it out all four seasons so that we can watch them progress. K. Johnson is going to be extremely important to us when conference play starts, IMO. If she can keep developing and maybe work on rebounding, she could certainly make the B12 all-freshmen team, and I believe Reyna Scott has the potential to do so too - she's got moves that makes my jaw drop!

If Madi can keep her ball handling clean, and TRob can keep hitting 3s, and Ana can stay healthy we will have a very good season, IMO. It'll be interesting how the rotations go, as it'll inevitably have to slow down as the season progresses, right? Can't develop chemistry with that many players in/out all game. So excited for this year!
