2017 Elite 60 Rankings

Just like Dungee. Soon, Llanusa will fall out of the top thirty.

While I have not seen her stats, some say Ana is not a great 3 pt shooter. If true, her ranking will improve the next 2 years if she can improve her shooting BTA. Still, being in the top 20 is really good!

I haven't seen Jo'Nah yet but knowing how many great coaches are after her, the girl can obviously play.

I would like to see Treece play.

Several have been raving about Williams recently. Apparently, even though she didn't make the final cut, she played really well in the tryouts in Colorado.

I've read really good things about Patterson.

Here's my thoughts:

Jade Williams did indeed make the final roster for team USA and let me tell you this, she's long and lean but very average in my opinion. Maybe coaches and Evaluators see something I don't. She's very young still so certainly has time to improve but certainly not top 10 in the nation.

Llanusa is by far one of the elite wings in the nation and if she develops her ball handling and outside shot, she could be very dangerous before it is all said and done. What separates Llanusa from the rest of the SG's is her versatility. Llanusa can get out in transition and post a smaller defender up which I like. Wings and PGs in 2017 are the deepest at their position right now, so it looks like Llanusa will bounce around the rankings. I look forward to see how Llanusa Developed this school year.

Same with Johnson PG spot is very deep and she will bounce around the rankings unless she has a breakout summer and burst back into the top 25. She is a true gem of this class because she's a feisty competitor and so versatile and can do so many things on and off the ball. Really looking foward to see more of her this summer and HS games this year to see how she develops. Sky is the limit for Johnson if she continues to get better. Same with Llanusa.

Didi Richards is a big versatile guard who can do a lot of things and might be a future McDonald's all American. Easily top 10 player and whoever gets her will be very lucky.

Haven't seen much of chassity Patterson but a lot say she reminds them
Of Ellenberg. I will keep a close eye this summer

I've seen a little video of Madison treece and easily comparable to Joanna McFarland. Size, Skill, 3pt shot, need I say more? Some say She would rather shoot 3's than post up back to the basket so that's a plus. I'm sure we are all over her.

These are just players I know OU are looking at in 2017 right now. Their could be more that I do not know about. Feel free to add more that I have not listed. I'm really glad 2 Oklahoma Kids are still on the list.

Players can improve ball handling as well as shooting over a 2 year period. One thing they aren't able to change much is athletic ability. Ana is very athletic and I understand Johnson is as well. That is one reason I really like Wilson.

Let's get lucky and take all 3! Keep it in the state!

Llanusa can hit a three. But, she only shoots a few and hits around 27%. Since she hits a 18-20 foot jumper almost every time, a three shouldn't really be a problem. She is the best creator that I have seen and the only player that I have seen that stands out other than Mulkey. She was by far the best player on the floor when Choctaw played Muskogee in the semi-finals. It took a team to beat her, and they beat her only with a little dubious luck. She can handle the ball, drive, pull up, pass, and control the floor.

Patterson is only a comparison to Ellenberg in that they play similarly. Vegas was a much better shooter and ball handler, and I was never really happy with Vegas' ball-handling. She is only a point guard if Nicole Griffin is a point guard. I'm not sure that her AAU coach is capable of doing much in the way of generating a team play.

My understanding is she is still at Choctaw...with Choctaw and Midwest City school districts being so close it would be easy for her to have a Midwest City home mailing address to cause confusion.

oh okay I get it...

Not sure if it's been posted but ESPN has updated there class of 2016 rankings. Mulkey is the top post in the class at number 12... It looks like she defiantly be a McDonald's All American, we haven't had one since Aaryn in 2010. Dungee is now number 60. I'm surprised that Landrum ( Baylor commit) has done a serious free fall, from #10 to # 40... Back when she committed to Baylor, Mulkey committed to OU and a well known Bay Area sports blogger said Landrum would be more of a sure thing then Mulkey there 1st years of college. Ones a guard and ones a post, but I'll be interesting in seeing who has the better college career...

After watching my Giant life I'm a big fan of Nance, I think she can be a star and a media darling. If people are expecting her to be like Griner then they could be wrong... She has a lot of potential and promise, I really like the way she runs the floor at 6'9 and she's a good passer, and has a free throw line jumper that could make her really hard to guard. I've been saying for a while her game reminds me of ALLYSSA DEHAAN who played at Michigan state, I don't think she come in as a low post back to the basket type of player... She'll have to bulk up and her strength as a freshman will be in the high post...

Other than height, I don't see much of a comparison of Nancy to either Griner or DeHaan. All three are very different types of players. DeHaan was just tall with almost no skills. Griner came in as very unskilled, but developed the ability to shoot free throws and a short jumper to become a solid offensive force. She was a good shot-blocker. But, she never came around as a rebounder, leaving that up to her forwards.

Nancy has a much better overall game than any of these at this stage. She is trained to play basketball: pass, shoot, dribble, and block shots. She is not a great rebounder, but we don't really know how good she is in that respect. That wasn't what her team wanted her for. She was the best that I have ever seen in highschool at changing the nature of the opposition offense. She just gums up their works. She blocks shots, but those hands are everywhere, and they begin taking stupid shots. She is as good of a shooter now as Griner ever became. She probably doesn't have what became a solid forte of Griner, mobility. But, she is a lot smarter than Griner on how to use her size. Having an aunt and mother with a history in the game has been useful.

If we put Nancy out there and expect Courtney, we'll be disappointed. But, what Nancy does provide is the ability for a forward or driving guard to operate without much of a defensive concentration. She could play a point-center position. If we have a power forward step up, she could become an All-American name with Nancy clearing a path.

We need to remember to keep Nancy out of foul trouble---no bringing the hands down to block shots. Keep them high and alter shots, or catch them. Don't take charges. They'll be afraid to shoot anyhow.

Hopefully the guards won't try to many bounce passes, a lob would be nice to see...

I think your comparison to DeHaan is very close, from what I've seen so far. She really needs to hit the weight room hard.

Okay, Syb, so I know how it goes. Perhaps you aren't into superlatives. But, c'mon, she was a GOOD shot blocker?

I think good is an appropriate term. She might have been great had she used her height to intimidate more rather than actually take a swipe at the ball in which case she often had her forearm alongside the shooter's forearm in what should have been called a foul or had she made an attempt to keep her blocks in bounds where they could have started more runouts. She was still learning at SMU, and I congratulate her more for developing her free throw shot and jump shot than for her defensive improvement. She could have been sensational.

OU didn't make Richard's top 11. Texas, Baylor, and Kansas from Big 12.
