#5 OU vs Ole Miss 6pm 1/8

Regarding the number of shots that Chavez took: I remember early in the season, Peyton commented to her that she needed to shoot the ball. The quote I read said, "We brought you in here to shoot." I suspect that when she was in high school, if things weren't going well for her team, she was coached to take over the game and shoot more. When things weren't going well last night, she reverted to what worked in high school. It won't always work at this level.

We brought her here to shoot but for a large part of the game she had more turnovers than baskets. That can't happen and she had been really good about not turning it over. Ole Miss is at the opposite end of the "under control" spectrum than we are.

Tom4OU, Not sure if you watched the games over the years...it has never been about stats. Usually JBs teams play the fewest minutes per game than any starting 5 in the conference. We just don't have a ton of depth this year. sheesh.
I’m not a new fan. Been attending games for many years. NIL has changed everything. When you land a top player, you’re doing so with promises of their goals. It’s not a shot, it’s just the truth. It wouldn’t matter how deep and good the bench is, they would play her on her worst day, because they want to keep her and a lot of money was spent. Same as Mateer. Nature of the beast now. There were plenty of games we were up 40 with starters still in well in to the 4th quarter. Even commentators have questioned leaving them in. Beers will stay in until she has a double double and Chavez until she leads. Not every comment is negative.

Mostly, I think they just needed to slow down a bit that game and would have been fine. Call out screens, talk on defense, and move without the ball. Things they usually do, but panicked maybe. Still very proud of them.

This is true.

Yes, I do wish the numerous times they drive in transition and there are two defenders under the hoop they would pull it out and run the offense instead of jacking up a bad shot. That is frustrating. There spacing on the offense end was bad...partly because there was a lot of standing around like you said instead of movement. On D we ran into ball screens all night instead of getting around them. Still, i don't know that they can beat a quality team if a main threat goes 1-14. 3-14 and we probably win.

My thoughts on tonight’s game. I hear you. My thoughts on Aaliyah taking so many shots a game I can care less only reason why because we know she is a natural scorer. Tonight in the first quarter against Ole Miss She was out of control a bit too much and Jennie should have called timeout immediately. I normally never point out fingers at players but tonight I most definitely am. Payton with two miss easy layups and was wide Open another time, and Aaliyah was trying to play hero ball and was playing out of control way to early in the game was wild to me idk. I could see that late in the 4th quarter but a couple mins into the first quarter? absolutely ridiculous..

I’ll be honest, I have not been pleased with Payton this season. She doesn’t even look to shoot anymore and when she does she misses badly or very short. There has been MULTIPLE games this season that she has been left wide open and could not knock down the shot.
Today she was left open at least 3 to 4 times behind the 3pt line and did not make it. Actually was off badly. Im disappointed overall with her this season so far, I honestly expected her to be scoring over 15+ Or more points a game this season and just have not. It doesn’t even irritate me anymore, its more disappointing at this point IMO. Like at this point start Keziah or Caya over Payton for a couple of games and make her realize she needs to start contributing or else she gonna get her spot taken. Have to think if Payton makes of of the 14 shots we win that game. I sure hope she gets going because its only going to get tougher here on out.

Raegan and Sahara played well tonight IMO. Zya didn’t play bad just was in foul trouble early on along with Sahara.

Caya and Keziah played well on defense tonight for us.

And oh the officiating was absolutely TERRIBLE.

Onto the next game, Boomer!

It could also be the huge adjustment she has had to make with a new ball-dominant PG. Last year, she set the offense a lot, and she picked her spots to score. Her confidence was obviously much better than it is right now. She seems a little hesitant this year. Zya & Chavez are both hunting for their shots, and they both want to play fast and get out in the open court. Peyton excels in the 1/2 court, and she is usually a great decision-maker.

Right now, the ball isn't moving enough, IMO. Many of the games we have won with the guards scoring the most would have been easily won by dumping the ball down to Beers more. I think Peyton will figure out her role better. This is some of the price you pay for bringing highly touted recruits. The men's team went through with Trae Young. He was ball-dominant, and an elite scorer, and some of the other guys had to find out how to play with him.
