I like the talent on this team and what lon is doing with it, but it has some deficiencies it will need to work on to get to post season.
1) Virtually every player passes up open shots, only to dribble, or later off of a pass, shoot a contested shot.
2) Osby and Mbuye need to limit their 15 ft and longer shots to late in the shot clock (just need to get something off) situations. Inside of 15 ft and off the dribble, they need to be as aggressive offensively as possible.
3) the freshman and mbuye turn the ball over too much. They are thinking too much and a blind man could anticipate what they are going to do. Amath runs before he dribbles ever time and the freshman decide what they are going to do with the ball 2-3 seconds before the do it and everyone in the arena knows where they are going with the ball. As they get more experiance, they will improve.
4) we are way too soft and tenative around the rim. I have seen grade school girls that were more decisive putting the ball back up. Sometimes this is an issue of thinking about getting a foul, avoiding a block, or whatever, and not jusst going hard and focusing on a spot inside the square or just not putting the ball up with enough force. It has been years since I have seen a team miss this many shots within 2 feet of the rim. Hopefully, lon has them doing "down hard -- up hard" drills every day. They need it.
5) we will improve when we settle into a good rotation. I'm guessing the lineup will remain the same and fitz, sam, buddy and clark will eat up most of the back up minutes, just not in mass like so far, but rather spotted in as necessary.
