Armon Gates new asst coach

Welcome Armon.....let's get some portal guys and get this thing turned around.

Oregon signed a top 10 class with 3 top 35 players this year… and considering we could use all the help we can get, this looks like a big positive going into portal season. Fingers crossed.

Armon background

4 years guard at Kent St, averaged 9.3/3.3/1.0 his senior season on 39.6%/38.8%/88.9% shooting.

Western Kentucky - graduate staff assistant - 2007-08 [WKU (29-7)]
Kent State - Assistant Coach -2008-10
TCU - Assistant Coach - 2010-11 (guard focused)
Loyola Chicago - Assistant Coach - 2011-13 (Moser's first 2 years)
Northwestern - Assistant Coach - 2013-18 ( a few 20 win seasons and a Top30 class)
Florida - Associate Head Coach - 2018
Nebraska - Assistant Coach - 2018-22
Oregon - Assistant Coach - 2022-23

Lots of guard success where he goes, typically. (At least going off bios and such)

"a Chicago native highly acclaimed for developing guards"

This is a good hire. Hopefully we get some continuity w the current staff.

Dana Altman is a good coach and he seems like a good guy to work for. Positive sign for the program to be able to get him here.

I am happy with the hire. Did he come here because he likes working with PM so much or did we give him a significantly higher salary than Oregon, or both?

Porter guy. Knows the grind. No idea on salary. Id guess it’s a raise to leave

Good to know that there are still Porter guys out there that want to come back and work. Hope this means recruiting will be pointing up.

He has a long list of jobs. Will be here for Porters last year and then be gone. He won’t be here long enough for us to get attached

You must be a hoot at parties.

It's a good hire.
