Assistant Coach Cline Headed to Marshall >>> SoonerSports.com

cline, from williamson, w. Va., said the decision to leave for marshall, which is located in huntington, w. Va., was a difficult one.

"i have loved my time at oklahoma and this was not an easy choice," he said. "i've known jeff for almost 25 years and i have the utmost respect for him. I thank him for the opportunities he's given me and wish nothing but the best for him and for oklahoma. In the end, the chance to get the heck out of dodge before this sinking ship takes everyone down was too great to pass up."

Now we've got assistants leaving for mid-major assistant jobs?

Did coach Cline really say "Before this sinking ship takes everyone down"?

No that is coolm making a joke.

Lol! I didn't think he would say something like that. I wish him well, he did a good job in his time here.

Jeebus......next thing you know the ballboys and trainers are gonna go running to an NAIA school. This is the first time I have seen so many people leave a program in less than 2 months. Crazy.

We lost probably the best coach on Capel's staff.......to Marshall! You figure it out. Not a lot of job security in Norman. The assistant hires will be make or break for Capel.

Not good. If Coach T had to go because he was caught up in the Tiny debacle (still speculation) that's one thing. But I can't see multiple coaches being caught up in shenanigans and I just don't see Capel just booting Cline. Wasn't Cline his first move for an assistant coach and spoken of in glowing terms by Capel when hired? We were getting new blood in anyway after OT leaving, surely Capel would want some continuity on the staff. These guys leaving for lesser schools probably means they don't like Capel's chances of survival. What about NCAA sanctions (re Tiny)? The way the hits just keep on coming would anyone be surprised?

Now this can be made into a positive with some top notch hires but would what's going on here right now pass the smell test for an experienced coach? (No offense to Jeff Webster or Griffin Sr et al but, c'mon, do we really want a novice asst in the program at this juncture? I know those names were just casually thrown out there but I'd like to see both pending hires have solid resumes.)

Damn, right on the heels a of a week's worth of positive news. Looks like I'll be pulling an all-nighter in front of my Santeria shrine again tonight.

He must have been real home sick, because OU's still a better job regardless of their situation.

CoolM's logic is really bad here. If Cline was trying to avoid the "sinking ship", he would've left two months ago, or any time leading up to last week. Our program is leaps and bounds better today than it was two weeks ago.

That's almost funny

Probably was real concerned that if Capel doesn't have a good year next year he will be gone and wanted to go ahead and take something in a comfortable setting for him and not be on the street looking if Capel gets fired next year.
Very concerning because he must not think we will win much next year.

you can throw in all the "woulda been sooner" logic that you want .. I just don't believe if things were peachy keen in Norman he'd be taking that job. IMO he was whistling by the graveyard thinking about this season and when this opened he thought it was too good to pass up.

personally I am excited about this upcoming season. I enjoy watching new players come in and (usually) get better. But my livelihood doesn't depend on some fickle fans whims.
