Barcelona Region All-Stars

Final: OU 78-62

As Monday, we broke open a five-point game in the last four minutes.

Again, it's difficult to get a good feel for how we played – but it's a win, so we should be happy.

Ortiz led OU in scoring with 17 points. Carter scored 14 and had a team high 8 rebounds. 42 percent from the field isn't bad and 40 percent from behind the arc is good. We also improved greatly on our free throw shooting, hitting 12 of 14 (86 percent).

So, are we finished, or do we play another game or two before heading home?

It sounded for a good while that we alternated turnovers with missed layups(I dont know how they defined layups.) Clearly rebounding was keeping us in the game.

It would be nice to know which 5 players were on the floor in the last 4 minutes. That five-some may indicate which group Coach Coale considers to be her best 5.

. . . . .

That is it. Three games.

From SoonerSports.com after game two ...

The Sooners, who are now 2-0 against Spanish competition on the trip, wrap up their three-game exhibition tour on Wednesday as they face the Barcelona Region All-Stars in Barcelona, Spain.

Something to consider - apparently they are using a completely different basketball than what we are used to.

I wouldn't read too much into these games. The important part of this trip are the ten practices and the bonding experience. I'm not sure the games tell us, or Sherri Coale, much of anything. When Sherri was interviewed before this trip, she even admitted she had no clue what type of competition they would be playing and if the team they were even scheduled to play would be the one that showed up (or she said something very similar to that).

From what I've read about the team thus far, I really think Dungee will provide an immediate impact, and Rich will too whenever she comes on the team at semester. Vivi will be a force inside, and Nancy is a work in progress. I really don't expect Nancy to start this year or get a large amount of minutes.

A healthy Carter will be a huge boost, as well.

I really think we're going to have a good team this year. Maybe not a great team, but a good one capable of a Sweet 16 / Elite 8.

True.

From what limited information that I can see from the few highlights and watching the play-by-play on livestats, I came to a conclusion that I posted on another thread (I think). I think we are playing against competition that we know we can beat 100-30. We seem to play in rather slow motion in the highlights, and I see no real expenditure of energy. It's kind of like we are running plays as opposed to trying to finish them.

The substitution pattern has been interesting to say the least. We started Penzo, T'Ona, and Chelsea in one game. People were going in and out as though trying to see what would happen.

One of the players did mention that the ball felt slick. It is smaller and has smaller ridges. I think some of the turnovers and shooting misses were due to not having a feel for the ball.

The only thing that I did notice was that when Nancy did finally get into games, strange things began to happen. Shots got blocked. She got rebounds. There were turnovers and offensive boards. Things happened quickly as though it all sped up. One highlight did show her on a screen. You have a long way to go to get around her legs on a screen.
