Big 12 Coach of the Year

Great job cherry picking Baylor's bball history to make a point while ignoring that they have been a solid team the past few years. I can't believe Duke almost lost in the Elite 8 last year to one of the worst programs in big 12 history. I'm sure Lace Dunn, Acy and Perry worry about 40 years of someone else's history every time they lace up their sneakers or take a shot.

I'm sorry, this is 2011 and not 2010 so last years Baylor team doesn't have any bearing on this years team. Drew is a craptacular coach and most every season other than last year or his first year would be considered as underachieving. So, the blind squirrel found a nut last year, it still doesn't change the fact Baylor has only beaten OU 3 times in history, and all 3 of those are within the last 2 years. It's also no secret Baylor is horrible on the road.

It was a nice win for this team, but certainly nothing to even begin mentioning Capel as COY. Sorry.

Oh really? Then where's your post?

And campbest, congratulations. Feel proud. Everyone knew Capel wasn't going to win the award, but if we had won a few more games, he would've been in the mentioned

Well...it was there at one point. Maybe the capelables removed it. :ez-laugh:

I could have sworn I commented at the time, but maybe not. Maybe I was trying to improve on making friends and influencing people so I decided to keep quiet. Maybe I'm just getting old.

lol

Sad state of affairs when being "mentioned" is cause for :clap.

Not really. The OP stated that Capel's name was in the hunt. At that time, it was.

He then asked how many wins would it take for Capel to win the award. A legitimate question.

He then stated that every other coach in the league sees how our players are improving. They have improved, although last night was a stumbling block which happens with young teams.

It was a legitimate thread at the time and provided some good discussion. Nothing wrong with that

Only a few extreme Capel supporters believed Capel was seriously in the hunt.

thats not the point. The point is that at the time we were what, tied for 3rd or 4th in the league and on a 4 game winning streak after beating a Baylor team that is very talented. Its not crazy to see how at that time Capel would be considered for coach of the year in the big 12.

Theres a difference b/t seriously in the hunt to actually win the award and seeing the progress and the potential for Capel to win the award.

STILLWATER - Even Jeff Capel's harshest critics have to concede this much - Oklahoma's coach is responsible for injecting some much-needed intrigue into Saturday's first round of Bedlam basketball.

Three weeks ago, bragging rights looked like the only thing the Sooners would be playing for in the 12:30 p.m. contest at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

When the Sooners got off to an 0-3 Big 12 start, some media pundits were warming up their computers, preparing to write Capel's coaching obituary at OU after five seasons.

The possibility still remains that Capel won't get a sixth season to turn around a Sooner program that fell totally apart last season. But the surprising four-game winning streak the Sooners carry into this afternoon's contest with the Cowboys has at least temporarily cooled the hot seat Capel was perched on as recently as last month.

If the season ended today, Capel would be a serious Big 12 coach of the year candidate. He's taken a bunch of talent-challenged newcomers and has them believing in themselves and finding ways to overcome their deficiencies.

Thanks for totally missing the point of my argument.

Some of you guys are ridiculous in this Capel can do no wrong. OU wins 4 games and you guys start talking about Coach of the Year. He is more likely to get fired than be coach of the year this year.

I am going to support him for one more season. I made that decision and will stick with it, but the guy has not done a good job. It seems to me that some of you are incapable of recognizing the program is in trouble and has gone down hill on Capel's watch. Capel has one great season, one acceptable season and 3 bad seasons in 5 years. Those are the facts and there is nothing to debate about it.

Again, it helps to actually read the argument and understand it before responding. I really encourage you to apply that here.

I actually have read your opinion, it just lacks logic and merit from my perspective. Capel was never in the hunt by any serious Big XII fan or commentator that wasn't completely biased. If OU wins its next four games, Capel still isn't in the hunt. Rick Barnes and Bill Self are the two guys in the hunt. They are followed by Doc Sadler, the guy at CU, Anderson and Turgeon (I probably spelled some of those names wrong). In fairness to Capel he is competing with Knight, Martin, Drew, Ford and the guy at ISU to stay out of last place.

the point really has flown over your head.

The second sentence completely contradicts your first.

I am not really sure how that is the case. I don't think your opinion is logical or meritorioius. I also don't think any non-biased observer thought Capel was in the running. Those two sentences do not contradict each other in any way.

really? AT THE MOMENT, the team picked to finish 11th in the conference and to at the most have a couple conference wins, was tied for third and had one 4 games in a row and just beaten baylor. I don't think it is unreasonable to think that if the season had ended then, the capels name would be brought up

If only we played 7 game seasons
