6'4 SG out of Sunrise Christian in Wichita.

Plays on the same AAU team as Perry Ellis and has been killing it in the past week. Supposdly put up big numbers vs Dream Vision and thats what got the interest rolling in.

This is what Bossi of Rivals wrote about him in April.

Buddy Hield doesn't exactly shoot a textbook jumper. But, you don't want to leave the 6-foot-3 shooting guard for the Kansas Players open for a look from deep because he will make it. A deceptive athlete with some strength, he dribbles well enough to create space for shots. He's a guy that mid to high majors will evaluate closely this summer.

Nice info. After a quick google search, looks like he has some interest from some other nice programs according to this article........

• Buddy Hield, 6-3, 175 pounds, Sunrise Christian (Kan.) Academy. Others: Marquette, Colorado, Missouri, Texas A&M, Wichita State.

And this from a Wichita State board......

Scouting Report: From the Bahamas now at Sunrise Christian. A long range shooter with a quick trigger.

There's also a good premium read on him from Rivals Nebraska site that says the Huskers offered him on the spot and Buzz Williams loves him....

However, he said he's already received heavy interest from the likes of Marquette, Texas A&M, Boston College, Colorado, Wichita State, Missouri and Clemson.

"Buzz Williams from Marquette loves Buddy," Lindsted told Rivals.com last fall. "Just about everybody who comes in and has seen him loves him. They are just all kind of sliding their feet in the door."

While many coaches and scouts have raved about his 3-point shooting, Hield said he likes to think of himself more as a combo guard than simply a catch-and-shoot player. After another year leading the way for Sunrise Christian next season, he said he'd be able to show just how versatile he can be.

A Husker fans' take after seeing him live.....

As I posted, I have seen Buddy play and he was terrific that night against Hogan Prep of Kansas City scoring 29 points and hitting 7 threes. Offensively he looks very good. I think he could use some help with his defense, but knowing Doc, I believe he could learn quickly. He is listed as 6'4" on the program and can dunk easily. He can take it to the basket as well as shoot the 3 ball. I believe he actually has more upside than Katenda although Katenda has more size. I personally believe he is D1 material. I have only coached Junior High basketball so do not claim to be an expert although I did have Alex Stivrens in the 7th grade at Lefler Junior High and he turned out pretty well. I watch a lot of basketball here in Lincoln and have not seen the atheticism of Buddy Hield. Sunrise Christian is a very small Kansas high school but don't be fooled by that. They have a hard time scheduling because large schools do not want to schedule them because a loss to them would look bad so they play mainly other private schools and have to travel a lot. My grandson played for Sunrise and I have a granddaughter still attending the school so I stay informed and try to go down and watch them play at least once each year. The school is located in Bel Aire, a suburb of Wichita. Their roster goes 6'7",6'8",6'9" and 6'10" plus Hield listed as 6'4" so there is a lot of help with the scoring . Katenda played mainly the 4 leaving the 6'10" as the 5. Actually Olaseni, the 6'10"kid is not bad either although he did a lot of feeding Hield and Katenda so he clogged up the middle and didn't shoot much. This is only my second post so it makes me a little nervous so I hope you all bear with me.

I expected to see a kid who looked like he could star in Hoosiers when I first clicked the link.

Sunrise Christian sure seems to have a lot of international players. Katenda (I believe from Africa), Olaseni (Africa) and Hield (Bahamas) all ending up at a small school in kansas can't be coincidence. I'd like to know more about this school...

Sunrise is a four year Christian prep school that welcomes basketball talent, but they are more like east coast prep schools as opposed to some of the basketball factories west of the Mississippi. I talked to their coach Kyle Linsted about Buddy a few weeks ago and he told me that the sky was the limit for Hield and that OU and Nebraska are the two high major schools who have shown the most interest. He also said Buddy has a colorful personality and high motor.

Sunrise will have more of a national schedule and I suspect OU will recruit more players from the Wichita an area which all of the Oklahoma coaches have ties to.

I am a coach in the Bahamas Buddy is very gifted this kid will shoot 3's from NBA range but the funny thing is we have a few other guards here that are better than Buddy. I had a kid on my team with amazing strength he would dunk on three defenders going to the basket and hit 3's during the game I saw the sunrise coach on the news he has connection with 3 schools in freeport and what they do is put on a show case and select the best talent, you should see another kid from the Bahamas playing this year also in the 10 grade.

Thanks for the insight.

Will the other kids from the Bahamas also be playing at Sunrise Prep?

Welcome to the board, Coach.

What else can you tell us about Buddy's game? What kind of defender do you think he will be at this level?

Thanks

Thanks guys for the nice welcome. Buddy needs to work on his defense eg. his foot work but I can tell you this if an opposing guard lights him up for 30 points Buddy will return the favor with 50 points this kid can hit 5 3pt in a quarter with ease at a high shooting percentage. here are some highlights of his game. Yes look out for a player coming there name Nathan Bain he is pretty good also. If you also google Pinewoods Prep from Ms you would find that 3 starters on that team help when there state class championship also the Bahamas is quickly becoming a hot bed for high schools in the USA so if you guys know of any schools interested in talent point them this way I can help with that.

Kansas as in the Jayhawks or the Kansas State Wildcats? Thanks for the reply.

kstate has never been mentioned as recruiting hield. i was hoping that with the new asst coach, they might start pursuing some bahamian players like hield or knowles, but so far there is no indication that that will happen.

Interesting. I guess Self has dropped out of the Nino Jackson "sweepstakes" then. Probably a smart move.

When do you think Buddy will be looking to make his decision, Coach? He is certainly a popular name right now on many recruiting circuits.

am actually in freeport now and just watched buddy got served up by another bahamian guard who I heard people in the gym saying the kid went to Mount Zion NC dont know when he will make his decision but the next summer league game i will ask him.
