a multi year deal with Macedonia..

according to landthieves.

Good for him. He'll get to live in a beautiful are and make some money.

Happy to hear this news, and I hope he does well!

Boca, as usual, has a good point.
Why would anyone, in their youth, want to travel to a place like this, play a game they love, and get paid to do so?

The better thing to do would be to be a marginal athlete in Arizona, pretend you are somebody and post on message boards. Duh, winning.

These places are nearby, as well.

It's a beautiful part of the world. Cade's basketball skills have given him the opportunity to widen his horizons. I'm envious..

A beautiful area? 2,000,000 people from the war torn former Yugoslavia with a GDP per capita of only $9,000.

The fmr Yugoslavian countries have quickly become tourism hot spots for western Europeans. He is going to be able live very well in a beautiful, cheap country. It and Slovakia managed to declare independence without conflict. I think the pictures showed how beautiful it is.

There are pretty pictures from Haiti too. The majority of impoverished dumps are on the ocean.

Comparing Slovenia to Macedonia is laughable. Slovenia is extremely well educated while Macedonia has over 30% unemployment and over a 30% radical Muslim population that is common in uneducated and impoverished nations.

First off, congrats to Cade. Hope he enjoys his time over there.

Secondly, whoever posted the pictures of Macedonia's "beach" needs to look at a map...it's a land locked country. Now if he wants to hop on a flight to Split, then that is a different story.

I assumed it was from Lake Ohrid:

I think you may be referring to the Albanian population? There was an insurgency a decade ago, but you make it sounds way bigger than it was. Less the 100 people on either side died in the very short lived conflict. It was composed of more like 2,000 people. I think that 30% number is just total Muslim population maybe? Either way, it is probably safer than living in Detroit and I am guessing any money he makes will go a long way in Macedonia.

Also, I was only comparing Slovenia to Macedonia in that they both became independent without conflict.

What kind of money does a guy make playing in a league like this?

I would guess at least $50k or so. So in a country with GDP per capita of $9k that salary probably has the spending power of $250k here.

My understanding is that a lot of the leagues provide housing and transportation. It may be that he gets to keep pretty much anything he makes.

I've got some beachfront property in New Mexico I'm looking to sell. You interested, Shooterms?
