I read where there are 21 D-1 coaching vacancies in women's basketball already and more will follow. Looks like a bunch of ADs are getting serious about wanting to win.

Wonder if any of our assistants will be in the running for those jobs.

Washington College head women's basketball coach, Megan Duran, has resigned from her position after five seasons.

And for all of those who complain because they think Coach Coale's assistant coaches are "too inbred," how do you feel about Kellie Harper's husband, Jon, being her top assistant at NC State and Kristy Curry at Texas Tech having her husband, Kelly, as one of her assistant coaches?

I think also, the group that was fired at Ole Miss before the season, 2 of them were married (I think a former whorn player and her husband).

IMO, from a business standpoint, it's stupid for any AD to allow a husband-wife team on a coaching staff. If the assistant isn't doing a good job, not much chance the spouse (head coach) will fire them. That creates another problem if another assistant on the staff does get fired as it pretty much assures a lawsuit which says, "if you don't sleep with the head coach here, you are subject to getting fired".

I feel the same way about having the Stoops brothers working together. Would Bob fire Mike if needed? Doubt it.

Today, college athletics is big business. You have to be VERY careful about nepotism.

If Sherri is so close to her assistants that she would not fire them if needed, that could be a real problem. I'm not saying she is...I'm saying it is something to think about.

All of the assistants at OU either was an assistant to Coale in high school, a college roommate, or another that had been with her here at OU and left and was not successful as a head coach. The last coach played for Coale in high school. I would like to see some new blood when there is openings. Also, I do not like the wife-husband coaching tandems or the Stoops brothers situation either.

I have no problem with coaches hiring people they are familiar with as assistants. Spouses working on the same staff would seem to be problematic. I can see why it might seem to be appealing to 2 D1 assistants who happened to be married, but it would probably be best if one were a D1 assistant and the other coached at a different level in the city where they lived.

Ohio St. is contacting the top coaches but are finding they have big buyouts in their contracts.

Most will remember Cindy Stein, the former coach at Mizzou:

Cindy Stein has resigned as Head Coach at Illinois Central College & will be named HC at Southern Illinois today. ICC will begin search now.

There is a 2pm press conference set at Clemson today. Audra Smith Head Coach at UAB is expected to be named the Tigers new Head Coach.

Rumors on the Southern California job have Cynthia Cooper-Dyke former USC player & Courtney Banghart HC at Princeton as strong candidates.
