Okay guys, talk me down.. im watching this KU v. MARQUETTE basketball game and im out of no where informed that screening a player with your legs wider than your shoulders is now an illegal screen???? I mean thats literally against basketball 101 (make yourself wide for a screen to maximize the distance the defender has to go around you)

When did this happen?
Why did this happen?

Marquette got hit with 2 nearly straight "illegal screens" and then literally the next 2 possessions KU had 3 separate screens with their players (one was Azibuke that had a ginormous wide base with his legs wide lol) that met the new criteria and guess what happened?

What a disaster. Prolly 80% of screens will now meet that criteria and will give even more subjective calls for refs to influence outcomes of games as they please. Ridiculous. Get out the yardsticks...

That’s always been the rule. The difference in this game, is they nitpick and call everything on Marquette while turning an intentional blind eye to what KU is doing. That has also always been the case.

Lol the sport will survive. As for the conspiracy theories about officials, don't allow yourselves to become like all the WSU fans I have to live around. They legitimately think that the NCAA is "out to get them" because the NCAA is upset that WSU made the Final Four a few years ago. Each season, certain rules get emphasized, people freak out in the first month, then everyone pretty much forgets about it.

People forget about it because they stop emphasizing it. I remember years ago when Kruger was harping on the new freedom of movement rules, then conference play comes and it went back to getting mugged.

Marquette got their first FTs at 3 mins in then 2nd half and ended with 4 for the GAME LOL

But my post is less about some conspiracy about helping KU, although you'd have to be crazy to not see that.. and just more about this terrible trend

No one hates KU more than I do. And in the Fieldhouse, they absolutely get a huge benefit from a friendly whistle. But Marquette shoots a ton of threes and rarely throws the ball inside or drives, which goes a long way toward determining how often you get to the line.

On a positive note, the referees in Hawaii apparently did not get the memorandum, as Duke did NOT get their usual favorable foul calls in the final minutes of their close loss to Gonzaga. It was such a rare occurrence, which is what made it so noticeable. Coach K was not pleased.

That game was made more enjoyable to watch, as the officials did not go out of their way to determine the outcome.
