Connecticut 72-61

I only saw the last quarter and Baylor really melted down at the end. Kim was also melting down.

I was suprised that they handled Baylor's size well.

Yeah, I think she was close to a strip show near the end of the game!

So, they lose three key players who have started for four years. They just keep coming up.

Dangerfield and Samuelson led UConn. They completely shut down Davis (0), Brown (9) and Mompremier (6). Mompremier did have ten rebounds.

It remains to be seen, but I think UConn's streaks (winning and NC) will end this year. They are very good but they have so many newbies and inexperience, albeit talented. I believe this will be year for someone else. ND??? South Carolina??? If UConn wins NC again this year, they may never lose a NC again, as long as Geno is there!

South Carolina looks really great as they have someone who can light it up from the outside to go along with their inside game. This may be their year. Notre Dame doesn't look quite as strong as last year but have a lot of weapons and run a very efficient offense.

A lot will depend on how much each team improves. Connecticut looked a lot better than against Florida State. A lot of that came from Dangerfield replacing Chou who is talented but has never really blended into the UConn scheme.

Too bad they couldn't win by 30!!!

Sorry to disappoint but we didn't look that bad considering both posts picked up 2 fouls in first 7 mins! BTW, we HAVE defeated UCONN........TWICE!! Sic'em

This game tells a lot of the story as to why Geno wins titles. Baylor lost a point guard. Well, so did UConn. UConn lost Moriah Jefferson, Morgan Tuck, and Breanna Stewart, probably the best player in the history of the sport, the only one to win four titles---well, along with Moriah. Baylor lost Niya Johnson.

With Baylor having so many key players returning, you would expect this to be a year in which they might dethrone Connecticut. The polls even had Notre Dame and South Carolina ranked ahead of them, sometimes Baylor.

But, Dangerfield and Collier. I didn't expect this when I saw Collier in HS. She never rebounded in the game that I saw. She got 11 boards against Baylor. I didn't see the game. But, someone shut Davis down---zero points, two boards? Samuelson and Gabby Williams have also stepped up. Chong showed up pretty well. Nurse wasn't as expected.

Geno wins because he recruits talent that will work in HIS system, no matter what it might be, and he has some flexibility in his system. He is just better than everyone else. I thought that if UConn was to be beaten,, it would be early in the year. If they aren't beaten soon, it could be another 76 games.

I will never deny that Geno is one of the best coaches in any sport, top in WBB. The recruits that they get are elite and come by the dozens. Who wouldn't want to play for UCONN? However, I do believe this team is very beatable. They made several "growing pain" mistakes that were very unorthodox. Dangerfield is a player to watch the real deal extremely fast and all over the court. Played more like a senior than a freshman very calm. Reminded me of a mix of Odyssey and Moriah. I'm a little frustrated with Kim. I'm afraid she might be too stubborn to adapt from the constant game plan of feeding the ball to the posts and leaving players in the game that don't produce. When we had BG, Kim wanted her to get the ball every possession and it costs us on more than one occasion. Last year was the same with Brown and MP. I'm all for getting talent the ball but if they are off then adjust. Kim also tends to stick with man to man defense instead of switching to zone. This is why we can never guard the 3. Kim is very set in her ways and it will cost us games (OSU in elite 8).

Now Nina is another player that infuriates me. She has never been the same since she was moved out of the post and moved out on the wing. Her production has diminished and at times she is lost just standing around and watching the play instead of demanding the ball or battling the boards. IMO, she's checked out which is sad being her senior year. Now she will continue to put up numbers against mediocre teams, cuz Kim won't take her out, but in pivotal games she chokes just like at UCONN. That's not the leadership we need right now and if she not willing then next woman up!

Kim may be the best in the big 12 but not in the same zip code with Geno..coaching wise.

Geno coaches them like they were men but does so in a way women appreciate. That is the key to his greatness.
