She can shoot.

From watching the state final game, I can't really tell much about how good she will be against D-1 talent. It didn't appear that there was anyone else on either team that could actually shoot. Poly-Webb did have much better ball-handling than did Franklin Road Academy. FRA had a point guard that probably had between ten and fifteen turnovers, mostly just careless. It was stunning that FRA won with as many turnovers as they had.

Wyatt has good handles and seems to be able to hit almost any shot. She may be the best pure shooter that we have recruited since Whitney. She can hit from anywhere. She also seemed to have a good idea of how to use her hands. I'm just not sure about her footspeed or how she will do against what will be much better competition. Of course, she had trouble in this game trying to escape the fact that they tended to double or triple her. She was never alone. Since FRA had no other scorers who could hit anything other than layups, they left everyone else alone. Others could have taken a step and shot. Derica usually had to retreat before she went forward.

I did find it interesting that if she got a loose ball, it was two points. In other words, if unguarded, she was absolutely devastating.

She also was awarded the MVP again, third year in four. But, she was obviously head and shoulders above the rest of the players on the floor for either team. I saw no other D-1 prospects on either team.

She did look pretty good. I did think that Kennedy Bell(6'1", Soph) for FRA has a chance to be D 1.

I don't think Whitney is the best pure shooter we have had in recent years. Aaryn is. IMO

I'd say level of competition in HS is the biggest unknown about how much Wyatt can help OU next year.
She's had a great senior year but when a bunch of games are scores like 52-13 it's hard to really rate her HS competition.

I've always though of Vegas as more of a scorer. I always remember that game against Tenn Whitney's freshman year and Knight couldn't stop talking about her shot and how pure it was.

Not that you have but I think it's easy to forget just how smooth she was when she was rolling. I saw Vegas in HS and there some games where everything went in. It's not that Vegas doesn't get hot and make some nice shots but there was just something about watching Whitney.

Good points!

Whitney as a freshman and Senior, is as good a shooter as we have ever had in my opinion. Whitney as a soph and junior -- no. In my unexpert opinion, she developed a balance problem (leaned back and left) during the shot and this lead to inconsistency. Fixed this by this year, and was back to her old self. Whitney as a freshman, was as fundamentally sound as it gets, in every aspect and fundamental of the game. JMO.

I think this is the more accurate statement. Whitney was the kid who beat the Mavericks three-point shooter by hitting 8 of 10 three pointers while he marveled. She had a beautiful stroke that gave us an outside shot when she was a freshman, something we lacked at the time. She was a pure shooter. If anything, Derica is more of a scorer type than Whitney was since Derica does shoot from anywhere. Whitney really didn't.

Vegas may be somewhat of a predictor to Derica. She is more of a scorer who either has or doesn't have her stroke. I want to see Derica get her shot off against D-1 competition, something that sometimes bothers Vegas.

Didn't someone report that Derica was on an AAU team this summer as its leading scorer?
