I have noticed that several times in a game our players dribble from one side of the court to the top of the circle and could make the turn down the lane if they would turn on the speed. Instead, they let the defender off the hook by passing or continuing to dribble. DRob made a living of getting her nose past the shoulder of a defender, make the turn, and end up at the rim or taking a short jump shot. When executed correctly, the defender is either going to get beat or they will have to foul.

I agree we have given up some good opportunities by not going into the paint when we should. On the other hand our opponents have taken FULL advantage of going to the middle if not in their set offense or just bring the ball and we don't stop them at the top of the key.

Without checking stats, I don't recall a Sherri Coale coached team as bad defensively as this one. Have we ever been last in the league in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense since 2000? We aren't a good perimeter defensive team but we are worse in the paint. When we do attempt to make a defensive play inside, it often results in a foul. If you aren't tall, you better be able to jump. We aren't that tall and, other than Sharane, we can't jump. That's why we struggle defensively, are last in the league in blocked shots, and lose too many rebounding battles.

Do I recall that the coach said that defense would be an emphasis this year and their first week of practice was "defense camp?"
