Edmond Memorial expected Mustang to make a second-half push, and it did.
But Memorial was prepared thanks to it being the fourth matchup between the conference foes this season.
The seventh-ranked Bulldogs beat ninth-ranked Mustang 45-33 to advance to the state tournament for the first time since 2015.
“Each team knows each other, so today we knew it’d be about the effort and heart our girls brought,” Memorial coach Dandy Peeler said.
Memorial built an 11-point lead at halftime, but Mustang rallied to get within six over the next 8 minutes.
“We huddled together and reminded one another that there were only 8 minutes left to play our heart out,” Peeler said.
Memorial then held Mustang to just three points in the fourth.
Memorial’s Taylor Norman scored 15 points.
