ESPN Ranks their top 50 Coaches in NCAA BBall

31 is a bit low. He's a a top 20-25 college coach, easy.

agree. I think they probably look at not having an 'elite' season like a final four run in 2 decades.

However, that much success at that many places, that proves to me more of a good coach than having a flash in the pan thanks to a couple recruits.

Would definitely rather have him at the helm than most of the coaches listed ahead of him. Will be interested to see how many when the full list comes out.

Self will obviously be in the top 25. I think Hoiberg makes it too. Will Travis Ford and Trent Johnson make the list? I didn't see any of the them in the just missed list. It will be hilarious if Ford doesn't make the list.

Not chance. Look at the guys ranked behind Kruger.

Come on. Ford has as good a chance at being considered a top 50 college basketball coach as you and I do.

Don't think you have to worry about Ford, Jake Trotter retweeted this:

@Jake_Trotter Ouch RT @GoodmanESPN Travis Ford? In top 25? Not a Chance. @kgsochris: Hoiberg, Self and Ford will be in the Top 25?

For those that don't know twitter speak, a reader asked Jeff Goodman of ESPN if Self, Hoiberg and Ford will be in the top 25 of the rankings.

Goodman responded in a funny matter like the guy was crazy, "Travis Ford? In the top 25? Not a chance"

Are they going to do one a day? I think people are going to lose interest at that slow pace. They might have been smarter to do five a day for four days then 1 day for the top five.

Do you think Self makes the top 5? I think he should. He is going to have a bunch of wins when he done.

unfortunately they are going to do 1 a day for the next five weeks. I will continue to check along with KS sooner and keep updating as long as people want updates. I thought it would be a good off season topic.

This list is an absolute joke. Lon Kruger is the 43rd winningest coach in the history of college basketball, but is the 31st best active coach?

Greg McDermott? Guy spectacularly fails at a place that is not difficult to win at (Iowa State) and then has some success at Creighton because he happened to spawn one of the best college basketball players in history.

Archie Miller has been coahcing for 3 years and has one NCAA tournament appearance.

Mick Cronin. LOL.

But has turned Harvard, a school almost none of us could get accepted to, in to a legit NCAA squad year after year...

He has done a good job at Harvard but to call that the 22nd best coach in the country seems like a stretch to me.

In the Big XII alone you have Huggins, Kruger, Barnes, Weber, and Tubby Smith that have all done more and are all ranked lower.

Edit - I forgot Scott Drew.

I couldn't agree more. #22, #23 and #24 should all be behind Coach Kruger. McDermott was fired because he couldn't win at a school set up with the resources to win. He's proven to be an elite "mid-major" coach and a below-average "high-major" coach...doesn't translate to being a top-25 head coach.

I guess one could say the same about Tommy Amaker. As for Bob McKillop, Davidson is about 3-4 miles from my house so I know a little about him. While he's a very good coach, I don't think anyone would have heard of him had Stephon Curry not fallen into his lap. He definitely has no business being ranked ahead of Lon Kruger.
