"I think he's outstanding," Billy Tubbs said. "We played against him when he was at K-State (from 1986-90). I know he beat me a couple times, so he must be really good if he did that."
Kruger won three of his eight games against Tubbs' Sooners. Twice, OU was playing as a No. 3 team against the unranked Wildcats.
That, along with 479 career college victories, should speak to Kruger's coaching skill. Though it isn't the only reason why Tubbs, OU's winningest coach ever, is high on the hire.
"I just know him casually, but I really like him," Tubbs said. "He's a Midwestern guy. He grew up in Kansas. I think he understands the culture around here. I think he'll be one of us, as they say. I think fans will relate to him."
