With the addition of Henry that makes 3 kids in the top 120 in his first class with the program coming off back to back losing seasons. I'm not saying he is going to start pulling in classes full of Burger Boys but I'd say this was an impressive haul.

I wonder what Lon sells them on. We have pretty good facilities out at LNC even if they keep the fans as far away from the court as possible (maybe the players like that, lol). Players will get to play right away as there aren't too many upper classmen established as starters left over. And the NCAA isn't breathing down the backs of our necks anymore. The Big 12 isn't too shabby of a bball conference.

Am I leaving anything out?

Lon is operating with the ncaa judgement in the shadows. So doing much better would be difficult yet not impossible, just go back 5 yrs. Two years from now we'll know about these signees and a lot more about Lon's recruiting but if he coaches them up like Kelvin then you don't really need burger boys. Bottom line is that it's too early to judge Lon's recruiting beyond the, had 3 to give and got 3.

sam grooms is the most important recruit he has singed to date

Darwin not only did he get 3 but all of them were in the top 120, including 2 in the top 100. I'd say given the circumstances that's a damn good class and a class that you could live with every year, bad circumstances or not.

All recruiting is obviously subject to how they pan out once they are on campus, but if you can coach a lick and do your homework, pulling in top 100 talent yearly will pay off huge dividends.

I kind of think M'buy will prove out to be the most important. But, you are not wrong about Grooms.

A winning team has to have a good point guard. And even though I felt all along Grooms would be an upgrade over Blair, I still am not completely confident he is the take us to the tourney guy.

However, I do take my clues from Kruger. If he likes him, I like him. Even though one of the new shooting guards is reported to be a combo guard and the other signee is a forward, makes me think that Kruger thinks Grooms is good enough for the teams he plans to have both this year and next.

I think we will see multiple PGs in the 2013 class.

That is what I would expect too. Grooms will be gone by the time that class gets on campus.

and so will blair ...

so we will take 2 PG in next years class .. and i would expect that 1 might be a juco unless we can get a big time HS point

What is the most amazing thing to me is all that he has accomplished in only six months on the job. He filled immediate needs immediately with quality players [PG and Post Depth] and is now signing 4* four year players that will add even more depth next season PLUS is working Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas like a madman for 2013 when kids are going to see OU as improving dramatically, especially if this Mbaye [sp?] kid has the kind of impact that some are projecting.

I think as long as folks are happy getting 3-4 year guys (3 and 4 stars) with the occasional local 5 star sprinkled in (Juwan Parker? Jordan Woodard?) then nobody will have a problem with Kruger's recruiting.

I think he will have an easier job recruiting here than he did in Vegas.

The days of us getting guys like Willie Warren are probably over (which is fine for most Sooner fans).

i know its early, but i think Grooms IS that kind of player. Quick, strong, good shooter, good floater. we will know a lot more when real games are played, because the rotation was all quirky during the fake games. TJ franklin was getting first half minutes, etc.

I suspect Grooms will take command of that position and be one of the better newcomers in the league.

Hope you are correct. I really like the way he pushes it off of defensive rebounds and his defensive intensity seems much better than what we've seen from an OU PG since AJ was here.

Ya, I agree. Another thing to consider here is that we actually expected him to be quick, push the ball, etc. But he looks like he will be a fine shooter as well. Seems like the total package to me.

He looked good shooting the ball.

Good point on the shooting. He also showed a little floater in the lane in the first exhibition game.

I have been impressed with both JUCOs thus far.

Count me in the Pro-Grooms camp...I'm a believer...kid looks like a legit talent...sort of a poor man's Ty Lawson...I think he'll only get better with minutes this season.

Also, with Kruger trying to install (and probably more importantly, sell recruits on) an up-tempo system, he absolutely HAD to have a guy like Grooms. Not just a solid, productive pg, but a guy that looks custom made for that style. I know its just been exhibition games, but when Grooms gets the ball and pushes it, the team has a look it hasn't had in I don't know when. And the way he gets up and pressures the ball defensively has a similar effect. I can't imagine trying to sell recruits on an up-tempo system with Blair trying to do those things, or even a good pg that simply doesn't have that game (like a John Roberson type).

It is for those reasons that I agree he is the most important piece Kruger has added thus far.

Good to see you posting, EC. Don't be a stranger around here this year!

i was very skeptical of his recruiting, just based on past performance combined with our current situation... with his class based solely on rankings, i'd say he's exceded my expectations so far... hope they all make it on campus and can really play...

He's definitely done a great job so far. Scraped together a bunch of solid players with not much time immediately after being hired, and then has proceeded to bring in some big time talents in his first full class.
