GAME 14 - SEC OPENER #10 OKLAHOMA (13-0) @ #5 ALABAMA (11-2) 5pm CST on SEC NETWORK

OK... So we get dominated and blown out by Alabama on the road... Can we compete with Texas A&M at home?

This game is the perfect illustration of what I’ve said since the move to the SEC was announced. While the Big 12 was the best league for several years, even in those years, the SEC was the most athletic league. They have had the most NBA draft picks over the last number of years. We will see lots of big, fast, strong dudes all year, and we looked like a mid major athletically tonight. We won’t lose by 30 every night, and will certainly win some games. But we will be the second most athletic team on the floor just about every night. Add in the rebounding issue, and it’s going to be very hard for us to win games. W

This is exactly why I wish Moser would schedule a really good noncon opponent and go play them on the road. I’d rather get exposed the first week of December than have this happen at this stage of the season.

Hard to argue with that. The only caveat I will add is OU’s two most athletic guards are hurt. That’s tough to overcome for any team. Alabama would look like a really different team if two of their top five guards were hurt. BUT, that’s no excuse for Moser at this point. He’s gotta get the job done this year.

Jones is considered a 3-and-D guy, which is very valuable but not generally a guy who is a high level athlete. JN is certainly a good athlete by all accounts, so I’d say he and Fears are our two most athletic guards.

As for Bama, one of their starting guards, who is a great shooter, tore his Achilles last month. He is a more accomplished player than either of the guys we are missing.

The offensive rebounds are the issue in this game.

We held our own against Michigan (-7) with their size and won, out rebounded AZ, but did get hammered by Louisville. But all Ws.

With our lack of size, we are going to struggle against teams with big athletic front lines. But what we can’t have is what happened tonight- a lack of competitiveness and D that compounds the rebounding issue.

Effort issues- Second chance points and letting them get 28 FTs is what cost us this game. Not the overall RB number.
lol … I replied to your earlier post about rebounding and I said size and skill are just as important… You said effort was all it was… NOW you say “with our lack of size”…

Make up your mind…🤣

This is for the people that know more about basketball then me…

Why does Northweather play over Wague, especially when we are getting killed in the boards? He is way more athletic then Luke.

Glad it only counts as one loss. Still very hopeful. We gotta shake this one off and get ready for the next one... BOOMER!!
Losing isn't the worst thing, at times this team has not played with enough urgency. To win games in conference they're going to have to do the little things on defense and especially rebounding the ball. That message becomes a lot easier after a loss like this, not as easy when you're undefeated.

Both Wague and Northweather, for 6-10 and 6-11, are two of the worst rebounding big men I have ever seen. We have another guy on the bench from Missouri who is 6-10 but he can't even play against Prairie View.

Which is why you should schedule a game like this in Nov or Dec, so your wake up call doesn’t come in the first conference game. There is zero excuse for this team to not know that they have to handler the details. They are not nearly good enough to think otherwise, but maybe beating up on bad teams convinced them otherwise.

Because historically, Wague fouls once every two minutes on the court. But honestly, I think the real answer if that Luke got hot for two games in The Bahamas. Remember, he barely played the first four games of the season.

playing Michigan should have handled that. We probably needed a true away game.

Wague should be playing more. Goodine should have played less tonight, as well. It would not have made much difference ultimately but this was a night when Moser went with guys that he trusts instead of guys who could match up athletically.
