If you want to advance. Great season though.... Something to build on.

Or the regular season. We didn't block out all year. It cost us in quite a few close games. Lots of guys just watching the ball. If you're on defense and you don't look for somebody to get a body on when a shot goes up, you're not doing your job.

Disappointed that we couldn't get the W, but very proud of our guy's effort. MSU seems like they just killed us on the offensive boards, got way too many 2nd and 3rd shots.

Props to the Spartans, they were all over our guys in the second half, we didn't get many good looks from 3 point land and the ones that we did get, we just couldn't get them to drop. We are usually better than tonight from BTA, but MSU's D had something to do with it.

Sweet Sixteen, and could have been EE, with just a few breaks.

The most annoying part of the game? Listening to that GD homer of an announcer!!!! Royally pissed listening him wax orgasmic over every good MSU play...

EDIT: I just looked at ESPN's box score and it said that O rebounds were 15-14 in favor of MSU. It sure seemed like a lot more of an edge from where I sat!

Why couldn't Trice and Valentine shoot free throws like the rest of their team? :(

We did rebound. Yahoo Sports has it 34-34; ESPN has it 38-36 in our favor.

And MSU got a lot of lucky bounce rebounds; it happens. They also got away with a slew of over-the-backs.

The game couldn't have been much closer, but the difference was, they shot better from behind the arc than we did.

It's not like we got killed on the board. We actually out rebounded them for the game. They had a grand total of 1 more offensive boards than us. We lost b/c we could not make shots. Plain and simple.

I think bad shooting and some bad shot selection were the bigger problem, but your right that we didn't get some important rebounds down the stretch.

They got 0 offensive boards when we went up 10 early. Then they started getting them and crawled back into it. We shored up the boards and went back up by 10. Then you know what happened. The winning the rebounding stat is like winning the turnover stat. If you give up too many it really doesn't matter and we gave up too many tonight.

Someone enlighten me on a point:

When we shoot a shot, and one of our guys (say, Spangler) tips the ball out to a teammate, is that considered an offensive rebound? Because there were a ton of missed shots that wound up tipped out for second and third chance shots by MSU.

I am assuming that the answer to my question is yes, but wanted to confirm.

They got the one offensive rebound that really mattered. And once again, it was Buddy that failed to box out. He's a really talented kid, but he's gotta learn some self discipline late in games. That's the kinds of things Izzo's teams do!!! And why did we switch the pick n roll with big-small in that situation? Not smart!!

I should have been more specific, we didn't get key rebounds when the game mattered most.

When you just look at stats....it doesn't tell the whole story. You need to dig deeper. For example, two teams may have equal turnovers in a game, but if a team turns it over in their last two possessions of the game, that may end up costing that team the game.

Thus, doing the little things (rebounding) at key sequences in the game (the last 4-5 minutes) can make the difference between giving your team additional chances during a possession or limiting the other team's possessions. We failed to do that down the stretch and it was, in part, why we lost the game.

Come on folks.

Cousins, Hield, and Booker were 3 out of 15 on threes (20%). We shot 23% from BTA for the game. We shot 12.5% (1 of 8) from BTA in the second half.

That is why we lost. Pure and simple.

Or here is another way to think about it. With less than 3 minutes left in the game, there was a clear foul at midcourt when an MSU player used an arm bar to knock down our defender. That left him open for an uncontested 3 pointer, which he made. If that had been called correctly, they lose 3 points, we have the ball, and all of a sudden we do not have to foul them all those times in the 2 minutes that followed.

Don't waste your time saying it didn't happen. It did. I have watched it several times in slow motion. It WAS an MSU foul. It was not called. It had a massive impact on the outcome. There was just not enough time left for us to mitigate it. Anyone who says officials errors don't impact games is either blind, naïve, an idiot, or lying. Some say "things even out". No they do not and if you know anything about statistics you know that. Is it evened out if an extra call goes our way in a nonconference game we win by 40? Obviously they does not equal out to getting eliminated in the sweet-16.

If we had shot better we would have won anyway. But that is not what happened. If the foul had been called correctly we would likely have won, but that is not what happened. But I prefer the game be decided by the players than the officials. How about you?
