Terrence Jones receiving 'hurtful' messages
May, 6, 2010 May 612:53PM ETComment Email Print Share By Diamond LeungTerrence Jones is verbally committing to the idea that he's "still committed to Washington," but that he's "not willing to sign anything at this point."

That's what he told John Canzano of The Oregonian, as the recruiting saga continues for the star forward who announced at a news conference he was picking Washington and then suddenly wasn't so sure.

That apparently caused some fans to freak out.

And the instant Jones chose Washington, his family began to receive harassing telephone calls from fans of the programs he didn't pick. Jones' cellular telephone blew up with angry activity, too.

Fans at Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA, Oregon and Oklahoma, miffed that the 6-foot-9 Jones didn't choose their programs on Friday, blasted Jones' social networking sites with insults and slurs that were so offensive his sister instructed him not to read them and went in herself and deleted it all.

"I saw some of it," Jones said. "Really hurtful stuff."

Wow. Some of these people need to get a grip and get their priorities reordered! I can't believe they'd do that to a kid. Truly pathetic.

I would doubt that many OU fans would be that upset, since we didn't think we had that much of a shot to begin with. I for one wasn't that emotionally invested in his recruitment.

I doubt OU fans got riled up about a basketball recruit from Oregon. We only get nasty when incompetent referees from Oregon cross our path.

MOST posts re: TJones appeared to be "good luck, glad you didn't pick KU" posts. I'm not sure I saw a single negative post about his choice on "either board".

considering cal called him following his announcement to UW and said something to the affect of "you upset a lot of people today" i'd guess a good number of UK fans did the flooding...

Ditto that.

You can bet that it is the Kentucky faithfull because they lost a recruit to another college.......

If it was Kentucky fans then would he want to go there after all this? If it were me this would reassure me that I made the right decision because I wouldn't want to play infront of those fans.

Football recruit, yes. Basketball recruit, not only no but HELL NO!! Not in this state.

That's some awfully irresponsible journalism -- just throwing all those programs under the bus. The writer better have gone to Jones' Facebook page and identified specific people from specific schools to make that claim.

It is mostly Kentucky fans who have gone crazy on his facebook page.

Jones says he called Calipari not the other way around. He also states he called all the coaches for the teams he didn't choose. Their response was that while they were disappointed, they understood the process.

Most of the negative stuff has actually seemed to be coming from UW fans that are upset with the fact that he hasn't signed yet.
