Hoping We'll Get A #4 Seed, But if it's a #5...

I seldom make predictions...I'm just not good at them. However, if we're a #5 seed, my prediction is that we'll play Nebraska as our 1st round opponent. Both the NCAA and NIT Committees love intriguing matchups. Back in 1987, they paired us with Tulsa in Round One. In the 2004 NIT tourney, we got paired with LSU (after just playing them for the title in football). There are dozens of these types of stories, so that's my prediction if we're a #5 seed. What makes it an even more interesting matchup is that Nebraska has never won an NCAA Tournament men's basketball game. They're something like 0-6 all time.

Despite a putrid 1-4 record as a #4 seed, that's what we're shooting for at this point. I'm not sure if we need to get one win or two to get that #4 seed, but we won't get it by going one-and-done this coming week. I think we'll keep rolling! This is the best we've looked in early March since 2002.

Personally I think one win in the conference tourney puts us at a 4 seed, and winning the conference tourney would get us to a 3.

I think (hope) we're a 4 seed with a chance to earn a 3 seed.

That said, if we're a 4 or a 5, hopefully they don't think Harvard is a neat match up, given that James Fraschilla's brother is on their roster. Harvard isn't an 11/12 seed you really want to play against in that opening round.

These things are always hard to judge. If a bunch of teams in the 3/4/5 range win one game may not be enough. If a bunch of them lose it makes our job easier.

I have not seen Harvard play but I think they would be at a serious disadvantage in athletic ability.

I think we're a 4 at worst at this point and a 3 at best. 3 would take getting to Saturday.

ISU is gonna get a higher seed then us - don't see us sniffing that 3 line unless we win the big 12 tourney and even then it seems most teams are locked into seeds prior to conf. tourneys ending.

If we win a game think we are safely a 4.

I hope you're right, but I just don't see it that way. If OU bows out after one game, it would be difficult for the Committee to say that we're either the 13th, 14th, 15th or 16th best team in the country when we'll be ranked in the 20s. Based on how the season played out, did we even win one impressive non-conference game? I'm just trying to see things through the eyes of the Committee. Who have we beaten that will jump out at the Committee? Again, I hope you're right, but would rather we never find out because I think we're going to be winning some more basketball games between now and Selection Sunday.

Kansas, Michigan, and Arizona are the only 3 teams in the nation with more top 50 wins than Oklahoma.

We have a chance for 3 more next weekend.

If we make the big 12 final, we're a 3 seed.

AP/Coaches poll ranking mean nothing when it comes to seeding. RPI on the hand carries a little weight and we are currently 15th in the RPI.

Do they use the RPI that NCAA.com updates every week? If so we are 20th in that one.

However we re seeded I get the feeling we will be a popular upset pick if we don't get a good matchup for us in round 1. Just from speaking to people the lack of respect is still there and a lot of people are going to be surprised to see us with that low a number once the brackets come out.

I agree with this. For some reason, we do not scare people and have been looked over all year. But a team like Iowa (no disrespect to Iowa....they have had a good season) is talked about as some dark horse team. I just do not get it. Sure, we are not super deep inside, but our guard play can give a lot of people trouble. If we shoot well, watch out!

This year seems to be the most wide open tournament in a while also. The defense still has issues so we could easily lose to a lot of teams also. But you have to love our chances to score on just about anyone.

I've heard this from other folks like Lunardi and I don't get it? I know ISU has a win over Michigan but other than that what did they do to place themselves higher (seeded) than us?

I think ISU and OU are on the same line right now. If one team performs better in KC, they'll jump up.

OOC wins over Michigan, BYU and Iowa - when it comes to differentiating resumes big non conference wins like that make a difference not to mention their RPI is in the top 10 right now. You guys are fooling yourself if you think our resume is as good as theirs.

Very true
