Anyone besides me concerned he isn't producing much? OU needs him to be a 10 point per game guy off the bench.

You know, it is odd because I was at first all in favor of Kruger starting Cousins in order to build up his confidence this year. I thought that Hornbeak was mentally tough enough to understand why Kruger needed to start Cousins, and besides, I figured that Hornbeak would still get 20 plus minutes.

As we near the second half of the non-con schedule, I am now worried about Hornbeak. He hasn't seemed to be able to adjust to the tighter foul rules well and his shot is not falling.

I hope that Kruger and the team can get him feeling good about himself again as we will need him this year!

Agreed. He just isn't making good decisions and doesn't play with the same excitement as the others.

Buddy and Cousins have both improved from last year. Jelon not so much.

I think part of it is him having to play out of position. I think he'd be doing much better at the 2 spot, but we don't have that luxury. I still think there is a chance that in future years, if we have a true backup pg on the roster, Hornbeak has a chance to beat out Cousins for the starting SG spot. But right now, Hornbeak isn't even competing for minutes at that spot.

I think he'll be fine in time. He is too talented, and LK is too good of a coach, for him not to.

Gary will be in the know... This is pure speculation. But jelon isn't quite fitting into this team concept thing anymore. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems he's acting pretty selfish. Bad attitude. Etc.

I think, in part, that goes with not starting. We were saying the same things about Cousins last year when he wasn't starting. Now that he is starting, I haven't seen any attitude problems out of him.

That can be a difficult thing. I have had to have the same talk with my daughter. Now that her team has more than the seven that had last year she is coming off the bench plus to make it worse her little sister usually comes in before her. She is a post and her sister a guard and the team has way more posts. She still plays about half the game (and not completly gassed at the end like she was last year) and is doing well. I have found that middle school girls really don't like to hear their Dad's point this kind of thing out though. Jelon should be fine he just needs to adapt.

I am not worried about Jelon mainly because going with the flow is what he does best. He has been doing that since he was back at Grace Prep playing along side a star studded cast of players. He just missed his shots yesterday but he does not seem to have an attitude problem or jacking up bad shots just to get shots up.

All mental right now. Love knowing he is the first guy off the bench to spell Jordan, Isaiah or Buddy. Once he adapts, he will be a big lift.

He's definitely forcing things, but he's been more impacted this year than anyone. I'm not going to get down on him. He needs to hit a shot or two to get his confidence back up. Love what Jelon brings and will be rooting for the kid.

This. I thought he played pretty well last night, he just missed shots. He also got into a little foul trouble, but he's too smart not to adjust his game. Every game I watch I thinks he's our best defender. Along with that a really good passer and probably our 2nd best perimeter shooter. I think he will be fine once he realizes his value off the bench is greater than him starting.

I'm sure that Jelon would prefer to start. But, I don't see any problems from him at all. He is a good player and a good kid. The coaches don't seem to be down on him and he works as hard as any of them.

Like Cousins, he is better as an off guard than he is as a point guard. But, he is better as a point guard than Cousins and not as good as Woodard. So, he has a role to fill that may not fit his skills or preferences. I'm sure that he will adjust to it.

By coming off the bench he is entering a situation where Cam, Buddy, and Spangler when they get the ball to him are sucking up most of the offensive oxygen. There isn't much left for him and it probably isn't real important how many points he gets.

Even though that he may not be perfectly content with his role, he knows that he is only a turned ankle away from 3/4 different players from being a starter. I think he will be fine.

Has anyone taken into account that his role may not be to score? It may be to defend, facilitate, and give breathers to the three guard starters.

He is coming in for guys that score so he needs to score some too. Bench points will make or break us in at least a few games this year.

Dirty,

I am more concerned with his poor defense than anything else. I was just thinking if he got a couple of shots to fall that it would boost his spirits. I think he is a really solid player and this team needs him to play better!

If you don't take shots then obviously you're not going to score but if by chance you do take shots then you are expected to score to some degree regardless of the position or role played. If he scored 6 points or so that would be good at this point in time.
