I have changed my mind about the coaching search.

If we have to spend a fortune for Buzz, like over 2 million a year plus a 1.5-3.8 million buyout; then i say go for a bigger fish.

We should offer the best of the best like Donovan and Brad Stevens 2.5 to 4 million/year. At the very least it will cause them to renegotiate with there schools and make them pony up for there successes.

To save money, the new dorms can stay on hold, and a big beer tent can sit on the corner, while the students live in Walker tower for a few more years.

If we go cheap, then we might as well go high risk-high reward with Pearl and grind through a probation as it would be better than grinding through more bad seasons with an unproven green coach.

I realize 80% of posters here can't think outside the box and thus will have a bunch of sarcastic responses to this thread, I hope some are at least funny.

Well...in that case, why don't we go after Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, Bill Self, or even Phil Jackson.

Donovan makes like 3.3 mil per year. Stevens signed an extension through 2022 just last year, which would mean his buyout is likely enormous.

Because those coaches total payment packages are already in that price range. If you want to offer like 5-6 million/year for Bill Self then it is getting likely unsustainable, but i would consider it. We should be able to outbid Kansas going by the Big12 budget report.

Remember when the Poke fans were all telling us that T Bone was going to offer Self 6 mil per year to leave Kansas? It's a big step down from 6 mil per year for Self to hiring Travis Ford.

Williams and Coach K, at their age, prolly aren't in it so much for making the most money as they are in the easiest path to championships

Mike Anderson now makes more than Mike Krzyzewski. I don't think Roy Williams salary is much higher than Coach K's if it is higher.

Coach K brings in over 4 million, 3.5 in a down year. His base is 2.2 and is incentive-based.

I was talking about the base contract portion. I think most coaches, even Capel, have incentives to make more if they can get to that level. Capel never could with the new contract so he never made any of that money.

He should have been giving money back. :ez-laugh:

I am just saying, if we are going to make Buzz a top 10-15 paid coach, we might as well get a top 5 coach and pay him top 1 or 2 paid coach.

The one leg up we might have on Buzz is that he is our first choice. That has to be an ego boost and make him more inclined to take the job. If we go flirt with another big name first, Buzz won't be there when we get turned down. Either he will decide to stay at Marquette or else go to Mizzou or Tennessee. Then we have to settle for someone not as hot as Buzz. If he ends up at Mizzou we would have to recruit against both him and BCG.

There is something said for maintaining focus if you want to win.

Hopefully Joe C is smarter than our fanbase.

Mizzou won't be able to hire a coach of Buzz's level. They will have to get a mid-major coach like Cuonzo Martin. They got very fortunate with Anderson that they were the only ones going after him that year. I think if Sampson had left earlier, Anderson would have chosen OU over MU.

Mizzou has problems in their athletic department and I think it takes a certain coach to fit in the Columbia scene.

US Gov't theory, spend money you don't have. Hope football is a good year this year....
