If they hire Johnny Jones (North Texas) or Terry Evans (UCO), I would be very happy with the hire. I think both of those guys could do a very good job.

Jones has 6 straight 20 win seasons, some NCAA Tournaments, and some school records at NORTH TEXAS. They won 14 games in 4 years prior to hiring Johnny Jones. It was a dump of a program and now they win 20+ games every year and recruit very well. Plus, his teams led the nation in free throws made for 2-3 years in a row, that indicates he has a particular style. They attack the glass and the rim.

Terry Evans bleeds OU, could recruit locally very well, and wins more than 80% of his games at UCO. The guy has won everywhere he has been. He is the biggest question mark in the whole thing, as he has no D1 head coaching experience. But I still think he would be a good hire.

Regardless, there are a lot of good mid-major candidates out there if they dont get Buzz.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Johnny Jones. UNT finished 8-8 in the sun belt.

Sure, he's done an amazing job considering where they were, but he has to be better than 8-8 in a weak conference for me to get excited.

I do not see the point in hiring a guy that is going to cost around $2 million a year plus bonuses. It is not like basketball has been drawing in the fans. Sellouts have been a rarity at OU baskeball games, even when OU is has the best player in the country or when we were one of the top teams in the country in 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2009. They have to bribe students to come to the games (which i think is awesome).
Men's Basketball does not produce a profit, so I think JC will get another young coach with a salary around $300,000-$500,000.
Being a basketball fan, I would love for OU to get Buzz or another proven coach, but I advise to take an optimistic view of whatever happens.
