I just had a thought, I am not sure Capel has really ever owned up to saying these team's issues are my fault. He always seems to out right or hint at player attitudes, kids not working hard, bla, bla and bla. Reminds me of certain modern day elected folks that always try and blame the folks in charge before them. They finger pointers have no real answers to solve the problems before them and improve things.

I have zero confidence in this coaching staff, its over.

I also don't care much for the talk about how untalented we are. We had less talent at OU in Kelvin's first 5 years or so overall. This team has a good post player something Kelvin really never got till Aaron McGhee maybe you can argue Eduardo Najera but he did a lot of things because he was so versatile. A true post didn't come here till McGhee came in. We have a pretty good post in Fitzgerald. We did have guards that could score like Brewer, or Minor, or Erdmann but that's about it at the guard. Right now you can say we only have 1 guard that can score consistently in Cade Davis. Are we a deep team? Not really but I think the talent problems are overstated. This team isn't really well coached at all.

Again, NickZepp, facepalm. :facepalm

So other than having multiple 1st team all big 12 guys those teams were less talented than this years team. Gotcha. :facepalm

I'm not saying I wouldn't like those guys. I'm saying if Kelvin's coaching this group of guys they would be looking a lot better. That's something he and Billy both did for the most part. Now near the end of both of their careers there were some down years. But the only reason Capel's record looks great is because of the guys that stayed from Kelvin's group, and because of Blake Griffin. None of the other players he's had have put up any production. And I don't think it's because of talent anymore it's because of coaching.

Nick with all due respect, you are coming off as a huge hypocrite here. You are the same guy who wants to excuse Labron James for failing in Cleveland because YOU say he had no talent, though they won more regular season games than anyone for 2 yrs. Then you excuse the Heats weak start this yr by saying that LaBron, Wade, and Bosh don't have the pieces around them yet to excell. That is what you said right??

Now you are here saying that you don't want to hear any excuses about OU not having enough talent??:facepalm:facepalm So a team with 3 all stars and 2 MVP caliber players gets a pass, while a college team with a completely new line-up made up of juco rejects and mid level high school players gets no excuses??

I have posted with you since around 2004 on numerous boards. I know that you LOVED Sampson as I did as well. I also know that you are not crazy about Capel. Your NBA biases can be seen when you give Kobe little to no credit, even after he won titles without Shaq, something you said he couldn't do, and when he did it, all of a sudden, Gasol and Odom along with Fisher became the best supporting cast in the history of the league. I realized awhile ago that you WON'T give Kobe credit. You WON'T fault LaBron, or whoever you hope can beat Kobe, and you WON'T be happy until either Kelvin returns, or Capel leaves.

I'm ok with all of that, but in the process you come off like a hypocrite by trying to pretend that none of that is your real agenda. Just say it if that's how you feel. No one can fault a poster for being honest about his/her feelings. Playing the hypocrite draws alot of contempt.......

C'mon, Nick. Take the worst of his 5 teams (results-wise), the '95 - '96 group. The starting 5 was Ryan Minor, Nate Erdman, Bobby Joe Evans, Ernie Abercrombie and Tyrone Foster. The weak link was Foster, but all five of those guys would probably start on this year's team...hence, they were more talented.

The only mystery right now is "Why can't Coach Capel get a maximum effort out of these players game in and game out?" That might be something that happened once every 7-10 games under Kelvin or Billy, but it's happening every other game under Coach Capel. That needs to change immediately.

There is no Corey Brewer, Nate Erdman, Ryan Minor on this team. I dont think the coaching is good, but none of our guys are anywhere near the player those guys were.

Cade Davis has played real good. He's averaging 17 a game right now. I think he's really stepped up because he's can score a lot inside now. That's something he didn't do a lot in the past.

Sampson always had or developed someone on his teams who could take over the offense late in games. He would run a simple isolation play for that guy to go 1 on 1. The guy would either score, or create a shot for someone else. This team has NO ONE who is going to fill that role right now. You can see the panic/out of control nervous reactions as soon as something happens late in a game. Saw it against Kentucky, and today against Chaminade.

No one knew who to go to or what to do when it got crunch time... If Cade didn't launch, it probably would have been a turnover by someone else.....

Bottom line is the "no talent" excuse cannot be used today. It just can't. This team has MORE THAN ENOUGH talent to beat a Division 2 team.
If they don't, then the coach should be gone for that alone.

With the exception of 1 1/2 Blake years Capel's teams don't play D, don't play with grit and don't have confidence. According to this staff the players develop attitude problems, are selfish, lazy, don't listen ot execute the game plan. I now am of the opinion its not the players every year it's this coaching staff. Time for a change.

Remember what Switzer said about calling out players in the press? He did it once to Marcus Dupree how did that work out for us?

Jmizzy4OU brought the Solomon-style Wisdom in this thread. Tough but fair. So let it be written, so let it be done.

anyone know what offensive sets we run? None as far as I can tell. That is a coaching issue to me. Capel's teams have no identity! Kelvin's were defense first, Billy was offense first but they had a common thread - an us-against-the world mentality! Capel has a me against the world mentality. No effort from players means no effort from coaches!

When the Division II team we are playing has 2 or 3 guys that would START (not just make the team, START) for us then we've got a serious problem. Why do I keep seeing Travis Ford sign 4 or 5 star guys that we constantly miss out on? Why can't we find a big man? When we do find a 5 star guy they turn into complete team cancers (TMG, Tiny). Let's face it, Capel hasn't shown me that he can recruit at a high level. That concerns me more than anything else.
