from the information i've seen, the legal issue is complete bs. he was arrested and charged with burglary (or something similar, don't recall the exact charge) for opening the door for, and allegedly helping his roommate's exgf carry some stuff from his roommate's room to her car after they broke up.

allegedly the exgf took some of his roommate's stuff too, not just her own stuff. if true (and i've seen the same story from multiple sources), the police involvement is ridiculous.
