Two in-home visits down, one cancellation and seven more to go for five-star prospect Terrence Jones. Here is the latest on the 6-foot-8, 220-pound power forward from Portland (Ore.) Jefferson High School.
This week Jones entertained coaches from UCLA and Washington and referred to both visits as successful.
“They both went well,” said Jones. “It is important for the coaches to meet with my mother. She is beginning to get a better understanding of the recruiting process.”
Recruiting Jones is a two part job for the coaches. They will have to win over this mother along with Jones himself.
“I Want my mom to hear what everybody has to say see how the coaches feel about me,” he said. “I’m interested in what their plan is for me.
“For my mom the education and tutoring piece is important. She wants me to get my degree and be happy wherever I go. She needs to trust the coaches.
“For me it is how important I am to the coaches and how much time they put into showing me how I would fit into their system. I want to be an impact player as a freshman.”
Along with UCLA and Washington there are seven other schools in the race to land Jones. North Carolina, however, is evidently out of his recruitment after cancelling an in-home visit this week.
Oklahoma is the first of the other seven schools to meet with Jones and his family. Kentucky, Maryland, Arizona, Kansas, Oregon and Oregon State are the others.
Once the in-home visits are complete, Jones will decide who he wants to visit. Whether or not he signs early or late is still up in the air.
“My mom wants me to sign in the fall, so we can get this over with,” said Jones. “If I still have doubts, though, I don’t want to pick a school only because I feel rushed. I’ll wait till the spring.”
Jones is the No. 13 ranked prospect in the Rivals150.
