The title to this thread says it all for me. we didn't and haven't played perfect this year, but we just don't shoot the ball well enough to be as consistent as we need to be or to beat really good teams.

Kind of odd too, if you look at the form and history of the players, and look at the shots they are taking (mostly good for them, especially considering shot clock), you would think we would shoot better.

For example, at times JB looks like he couldn't miss those little lane floaters he often gets, but last night he had a number of them and missed all of them I believe. He was mostly open on those shots, he got touch on them, but didn't connect.

This has to be how most teams and their fans felt in Buddy's last two years, as the sooners outshot everyone. Must be driving Lon crazy. Team plays well enough to win most nights but can't put the ball in the hole.

This may explain the Phipps schollie.

It's very interesting if you look at both Baylor games and the first Kansas game. I don't think we played badly overall. We got some really good shots at key times of the games, but against elite defenders like KU and BU, we get sped up ... and when our guys are sped up (especially Doolittle, Manek, and Reaves), they are terribly inefficient -- even on wide open corner 3s or easy floaters or, heck, even layups.

Those "little lane floaters" are not easy shots. And they're not JB's shot. You never see him taking those.

But the biggest problem remains 3pt shooting. You can't beat good teams shooting 5-21 from 3. You'll struggle to beat poor Big 12 teams shooting that poorly.

Shooting is about form, confidence, concentration, and shot selection. Our players' form looks good, we have excellent shooters, I think we are lacking in the other areas.

We missed several point blank shots. Some were contested and others weren't. To beat good teams you have to make those shots.
We also struggled from 3 for sure. Brady seemed to be slightly rushed even when he was open. Reaves just can't buy a shot now. Doo was decent but twice took unadvised 3's out of the offensive system. Of course they were misses.

Also Brady and Doo have to be able to score from the midrange to low post when they are being covered by a guard. We were brutal in those situations.

Yes tons of mismatches in the post & sometimes couldn’t even get them the ball.

Yup we hit 3 more, 8/21...38% not unheard of... it’s much closer and possibly a win. Along with a few of those lay-ups.

Embarrassing to shoot that poorly at home. I don’t care which college team you are playing.

Some of those misses last night, IMO, was because of how good Baylor is defensively. As long as I have been watching college basketball, I am not sure I have seen a team play as good individual AND team defense as does Baylor.

Their post positioning is unbelievable and they had there big guarding Brady all over the court, and he was capable of doing it. The way they play screens is perfect and you don't see guys on a bad switch or losing their man. Even if a mismatch is created, the rest of the team defense almost makes it impossible to exploit the mismatch. Their perimeter defense is so in your face, they take away the passing angles and make you work just to catch the ball. Being at the game, you can sense their physicality and how it made our guys almost panicked each time down the floor.

All of this creates tremendous pressure on shooters as they feel rushed to get their shot off. Even if they get an open look they rushed the shot. I know we haven't shot the ball well consistently all year, but man, Baylor's defense had a LOT to do with it last night.

Shooting comes and goes. Even good shooting teams have bad shooting games. Sometimes the shots fall and sometimes they don’t.

Defense and rebounding are the keys to winning. Effort, intensity, and wanting it more lead to winning regardless of shooting. Rebounding is about effort. Defense is about effort.

This team isn’t tough enough and there is a talent deficiency. That’s a bad combination.

Doo is a stud
Manek is good when his shot is falling. When it isn’t he pouts and folds. That’s weak.
Reaves is overrated and disappears against good teams.
Williams is a potential stud and I believe he will continue to get better
We have several guys that are still young and learning that may develop into great players, but for this season, they’re not there yet.

Shooting isn’t the key. Defense and rebounding are more important and we don’t do either of those things well.

Who do you think doesn't have the talent to play in the Big 12, or doesn't have the talent to help us compete for a conference championship?
Last night the announcers said Baylor doesn't have a single player that was rated in the top 50 in high school.

Our decrease in 3 pt % is about the same as the average across the country with the 3 point line being extended.

I understand the frustration of the post after feeling like we had several good looks that were missed last night and against KU which our opponents knocked down. However, I don't know that the numbers bear out some bad shooting team.

Held the #1 team 7 points under their average. Also lost the rebounding battle by 2 even though OU shot worse. Shooting & live ball turnovers were the key & it’s pretty obvious.

Well, one of their best players didn't play...
