KU's Rex Chapman

That's kind of crazy; the story you linked to says he was doing on-air commentary as recently as 2013. I have no earthly idea what's up with him, but it's an extreme enough incident that I can't help but wonder if there's an addiction factoring into his actions.

^^ thats what I was wondering. maybe he's a klepto. thats usually not their MO though. they don't steal to resell.

I read the thread title and thought "he didnt play for Kansas".

I was gonna say the same thing wondering why he'd need to steal - then I clicked on the link and saw his mug shot. Looks like he drinks a gallon of vodka a day and just came off a binge.

I think the OP is thinking of Rex Walters, ex-KU player.

I am not sure what the original poster was thinking. I have heard he is a bit off at times.

I actually typed KU meaning Kansas. I read the article and knew I was talking about Rex Chapman. I think I may have just been hoping I could tie this to Kansas.

Shocking. I remember Chapman donating to HIV research back when Magic Johnson announced he had the disease. Maybe he has fallen on hard times financially since he no longer plays.

I found this quote from a Google search:
Rex Chapman, a guard for the Charlotte Hornets, said he and his wife, Bridgette, will donate $50,000 to an HIV virus research fund of Johnson's choice. "Bridgette and I are donating $50,000 to any HIV virus research fund set up or designated by Magic," Chapman said.

I always viewed him as a "good guy" because of his benevolence.

Why are we surprised. Grant Long just lost his job for bankruptcy. Long NBA career and was until this came up a NBA analyst.

I don't know what happened to Rex Chapman after basketball, but if you get a chance, be sure to watch the ESPN "30 for 30" program titled "Broke."

"Broke" illustrates that many professional athletes have little left financially following their athletic careers.

It is worth a watch.

I think that all pro sports players should be required to purchased 2 rural acres of land and put a small house on it with all utilities and water acquired thru renewables and a well. That way their only bills are annual property taxes and food.
