Lattin, Buford and McNeace

Spangler/Bennett/McNeace/Lattin

Just from a common sense standpoint, I would think Coach Kruger eventually wants to play either Lattin or McNeace at the 4. It makes no sense bringing in both these guys so they can spend two years in the program fighting for backup minutes to Ryan Spangler.

My guess is one of them redshirts next year while the other backs up both the 4 and the 5 since Bennett will also be there as a backup. If one of them really shines next year, that person would seemingly get a lot of playing time the following season.

Spangler is more of a 4 than either of those guys at this point.

And McNeace will never play the 4. He is a legit 6'10 center type, that will ALWAYS be the 5 when he is in the game for OU.

I had to list those guys like that b/c I see Spangler starting at the 5 again next year, but you are right, as the roster currently stands, he might also be the backup 4. Or maybe Bennett develops into that. Offensively speaking, I think if Bennett continues to develop, he and Spangler are basically interchangeable on the offensive end of the court. I think ideally those guys all would play the 5 (as the players they will be next year), but some might develop into 4's (Lattin, Bennett), and some could slide to the 4 in a pinch (Spangler, Bennett). You don't go "big" when you are wanting to run and press like we do. You go small.

Lattin may be a stretch 4 at some point, but I don't think he'll be that the day he steps foot in Norman.

I am just joking around but you probably shouldn't post on the internet things that could arguably be an NCAA violation.

I'm not sure that I was doing that. You need to show me the rule. The times that I thought that I had information that shouldn't be posted, I passed it along to a few by PM.

I would think McNease redshirts next year (it could be Lattin I just think Lattin is a little more developed at this point) and Lattin and Bennett battle for Neal and Bennett's minutes this year. With Buford taking most of Clark's minutes, but I assume he plays a little less than clark and those minutes will also go to Lattin or Bennett. I feel next year we will play with 2 bigs a lot more, but still try and push the tempo since Lattin, Mcnease, and Bennett are more athletic than Fitz.

Of course all this is predicated that Cunningham doesn't come here, if he does it changes everything.

I think you underestimate the athletes these kids are, Spangler is so far ahead of Bennett its not even close. To say Bennett could be a "4" isn't right. He's a RS Juco kid, he'll get better but to see him as a 4 isn't happening..

Lattin is just as good as Bennett right now. He'd be a better "4" right now ahead of Bennett.

Fair enough.

But athleticism alone isn't what is going to determine who plays the four. Most of the guys we'll have fighting for the backup minutes to Buford, are fairly athletic. It'll be the kid, at least offensively, that can knock down a jumper from 18 foot. Or put the ball on the floor and go by a guy. Really hard to compare kids that haven't even played their senior year of hoops to guys that have been in the college game (however mediocre they are). It's not like Lattin and McNease are coming to OU as polished players. Both are raw, especially offensively.

I agree!

M'Baye really hurt both himself and his team by leaving. Very frustrating.

M'Baye made the best decision for him and his family. He was a one and done. I said that from the very beginning. You cant fault a kid for that.

I don't fault him for anything, and believe he sincerely thought he was making the best decision for himself and his family. I also think that he cost himself and his family a very large amount of money by not returning to school.

M'Baye is leading his team in both scoring and rebounds. He is in the top 7 in his league in both scoring and rebounds. He is making over $200,000 per year. His performance will probably earn him a contract in the top Euro league next year at even more money.

He may have hurt us some. But, he is going to be OK. I wish him the best.

I wish him the best as well. And Japanese league salaries get up to $200k for rookies? Color me beyond surprised.

I got the information that I posted from his room mate from last season one day last week.
