Lineup Options

I disagree with every word.

In college, Cam is the definition of a 3. Whether you call that a big guard, a wing, or a SF, Cam is that. To a frickin' T.

And Osby is not a wing. I don't care how agile he is, he isn't going to be able to get down and guard 75% of college 3's. He is a 4 that has perimeter skills.

And I doubt Grooms beats out Blair. But we'll see on that one.

I got to agree with this. Cam is nowhere close to being an NBA 2. Those guys can handle the ball WELL. He will be a very solid 3 guy for us though IMO.

What is wrong is that in college there are not 3s to begin with.

There are usually 3 guards combined with 2 forwards or a forward and a center.

Small forward (3) is a position that does not exist in college.

That 3rd guard is usually a bigger guard, an inside/outside guy. He is usually not as good a ball handler as the 1 and 2.

No One cares how it translates into the NBA... Last I checked, the OU sooners were college.

thats a pet peeve of mine. Enjoy college bball as it is, who the heck cares if Jimmer F doesnt play in the NBA, he was great in college.

My comment was in response to the poster that said Cam was like an NBA 2.

I don't think Goff will start. Don't underestimate Div. I experience. Not even sure Grooms will start. At least not at the first of the year for sure.

1)Blair
2)Pledger
3)Clark
4)Fitz
5)Osby

I know exactly the reason why Nick got benched because I saw the incident and Capel freak out on him [and then he never really played again], but I could still see him getting some time on the court this season under a new regime.

FWIW, I think that the only guys you can "lock" at this point as starters are Osby and Clark. Fitz is probably the next closest "lock" but I could see where Goff could be the starter if he is more athletic, defensive minded and athletic than Fitz and that is what CLK wants in a big.

We have a new coach who has already said he is not going to be locked into a "system" and he probably isn't going to put much stock in "last year" either. Good news to me is that guys are going to have to compete for spots, but we'll know soon enough..practices are open :)

Not doubting you, but curious what you saw?

I just figured he was pulled because he wouldn't play defense, but from your post it sounds like it goes deeper.

Goff is basically a 6th man at the JUCO level for a team that wasn't really that good. How can he start for a Big 12 team? If he starts then Kruger hasn't gotten anyone in recruiting or we just aren't any good.

Wow!!! and this is the guy that's suppose to help us???

Welcome to the board, but no way is Osby a 5. He will play the 3 or the 4.

You trust Cam bringing the ball up at times vs pressure? Not yet I dont. 2's can handle the ball almost as good as Pg's. Cam is not there yet.

Trust me I hope he can play the 2. That would be awesome, but comparing him to 2's in the NBA is a stretch right now...

Scottie Pippen handled the ball a lot and he wasn't what you would consider a true point.

Chris Mullin was a 'point forward' who handled the ball a lot and he was even less athletic than Pippen.

Truthfully, the PG will handle the ball in pressure situations the majority of the time....would you like to have two ball handlers on the floor at once? Maybe...but you can get by fine as long as the PG that is with them can handle it most of the time.

I can definitely see Osby playing the 5 on defense. Out of necessity, but still. If he and Fitz start at the 4/5, Osby might defend the bigger player at times.

I'm not sure that there are many teams that OU will face that will have a true 5. Most teams have two 4s or even a true 4 paired with a swing 4. I think Osby and Fitz will start together, but neither is anywhere close to being a 5.

If Goff can defend I could see the starting lineup looking like this:

Grooms
Pledger
Clark
Osby
Goff

6th Man: Fitz

As has been mentioned, we'll rarely play a true center, so Goff at the five isn't a stretch. I really think Clark, Osby and Pledger will be the top scoring options. Which means that the other starting spots will determined by who plays the best defense; I can't see Fitz being better than Goff defensively.

Can't remember exactly who it was against [I want to say Baylor] but a play was called and Nick was clearly supposed to set a screen, Nick "started" to set a screen and then bailed on it once it looked like there might be some significant impact from a guard...basically shifted away from contact and it allowed the player to be screened the opportunity to alter a shot. Next time-out, Capel walked straight out to Nick and yelling at him, then yelled more while he was on the bench and Nick never came back in the game...or really came in during the rest of the season. Honestly, it stood out becuase I'd never seen Capel that upset at a player before, so it had to of stemmed from something in practice or another occasion.
