Maddie

I hope she can stay healthy the rest of her career. BTW, I am looking forward to watching Penzo next year.

Unless Penzo is exceptional, I'm not sure where her minutes are going to come from since all of our guards return.

I think there is a reason that she made the U-16 All-tournament team.

I'm anxious to watch the next 3-4 games to see how Maddie performs. It is impossible to know if that was truly a break-out game or if she has trouble repeating last night's performance. We need for her to be really good.

I will be surprised if Maddie is this good consistently at this point in her recovery. She seems to think she will be. Two years is a lot of rust, and two ACLs is a lot to be concerned about. I will be pleased if she can play enough to show Gabbi the position, and begin to feel comfortable again. Maybe, by tournament time.....

Well, she played the 4 not the 1 against Texas, and her effectiveness was on the screen/curl move to the basket. She only had one basket and the rest were foul shots. So, it would seem that she has a place in the half-court offense similar to the last year Hand played, when she ran that curl move all the time. Maddie's length enables her to go to the basket, throw curl pass to the screener, or throw a long pass to the corner out of the curl move. All were Stacy Dales specials. Stacey often was not a true point guard. Hardeman almost always brought the ball up. But notice that just as Dales would pass out to Hardeman, Maddie hit Ortiz for the key three point basket in the game out of the same move. If her knees hold up, there appears to be great promise.

I believe last night was the start of Maddie turning the corner and becoming the plalyer I saw before her injuries. She is a leader, and a very tough competitor. Barring any more set backs, Maddie will start getting 15 to 20 mins. a game. She can do so many things, and proved that she will be difficult to deal with if she does play the 4 position. Texas certainly had a difficult time stopping her.

Nice interview. Thanks for posting.

Don't miss this week's Sherri Coale Show. In addition to the video in this thread, Sherri tells a story about a high school player that is worth hearing.

A great video about my favorite OU player on this team.

Lots of great girls on the team, but Maddie's story is a very special one.

Sherri made it clear that Maddie is her 1-4. She can play any of four positions. I don't know why she can't play the five. Last night, she had Maddie on Nneka Enempkali for a while. She had a clip where Maddie just stole the ball from Nneka by position on a rebound without going over her. You know that Nneka can't guard Maddie. She noticed as I did that Maddie would have had a lot of assists had we been making our threes.

I think Maddie is 3 of 5 from three point range for her career.
