Article in KC Star about Bol Bol. I had heard of him because the high school down the street from me, Blue Valley Northwest (2-time defending 6A champs) is getting pretty infamous for moving kids into the district. They tried it with Bol as well but got caught before they could close the loose ends. He is now at Miege (private school in the same conference).

I am sure his offensive skills will be immature but he will definitely be an eraser at the rim.

I refereed a HS basketball game at 2nd Baptist in Houston during a tournament 10-12 years ago. It was a consolation game so it was in their back gym (they have 3 gyms) .... where a lot of ex-NBA players would go practice in isolation from any spectators. I think it was mid-afternoon on Saturday and there was a timeout. A side door at the end of the court cracked open and I heard someone whispering to me "ref, ref.....". I stepped into the hallway and it was Manute Bol and several NBA ex's obviously there to play a pickup game, and they were asking me how much time was left in the game.

Bol was the biggest, most freakish looking person I've ever seen in my life. He had to stoop to get thru a doorway. I'm not even sure if he weighed much over 200 pounds (7'7") ...... it was his skinny frame that was freakish. I felt sorry for him. I'm sure he could dunk a basketball standing flat footed.

I have a friend who is 7 foot tall and used to play in the NBA (Steve Hayes) and if he walks into a restaurant people will snap their heads to look at him. Manute Bol (deceased) would make him look short.

I'm sure a lot of D1 teams will be offering Bol Bol.

I used to work as a bartender at (among other places) Mickey Mantle's restaurant here in NYC, a spot many athletes patronized. One evening Manute Bol came in and just to go from the front door to the men's room in the back, which he had to do at one point, he had to duck several times. And the ceilings there were not particularly low -- probably 10 feet -- but there were certain spots that were lower than others.

There was no avoiding looking at Bol when he was on the premises. Even at a place like Mantle's, where there were often other athletes around, he stood out like few others. He seemed a very nice fellow, by the way; I was very sorry to hear of his premature passing some years back.
