New OU $75 million student/athlete Housing Center just announced

I spent a lot of time in the area up and down Jenkins while in school. I attended St. Thomas More, spent a ton of time at O'Connell's, my wife lived in a house just across the street, NE of the stadium. Hell, I asked my wife out there. That was less than 15 years ago and you wouldn't even recognize any of it anymore. Kind of sad, really.

O'Connell's has campus corner now...this new project was needed.

Two things:

1. Do they have anything like that at Marquette?

2. Are we counting on a highly leveraged hedge fund that we have no control over to get it built?

My gut tells me "no", but just checking.

It was needed, just wish they could have somehow done it in the current dorms locations. The OC on campus corner sucks balls

Just now announced? I was visiting with a buddy a couple of weeks ago, he said he heard Flintco was already lined up to do the construction on this deal. If they have just now approved the schematic design, construction could not start for some time. Hum..................

So once this is built what happens to old ones? Are they torn down and a new B-Ball arena built in their place?

Personally I like the new one more...never a fan of the old location.

What will happen to Bud House and the Gomer Jones building?

Will they leave them as housing or tear them down? I'm hoping for the latter...that Bud building doesn't match the rest of the campus. And, while they are at it, get rid of the Blender (science building). That thing is an eyesore.

Architecture in the 60s and 70s were flat out awful. Go to almost every campus in the US and the drab, ugly, buildings with little windows stick out like the Blender. Having been a dual science major at OU meant I spent way too much time in that s-hole.

I wonder if it's going to be named after someone or just stay as the Sooner Housing Center?
