New UT arena

no. we don't need to be "answering" this.

It’s time. Make it smaller. Have boxes. The programs deserve it.

There will be no new arena or extensive renovations in Norman for a LONG time!!!

This is true. The house has to be put back in financial order, and that's going to take a while.

A LONG while.

Great. So, we’re stuck with this ****ty open venue that sounds like a coffin when it’s not full. Not to mention all the concrete. Like a mausoleum.

We need a new arena or a major renovation. It’s so pathetic.

the university north park project was going to be a home run for both OU and the city of norman ...

it is very very sad that that the City of Norman doesn't appreciate what it has in OU

Well, if you read the article, they propose a funding deal where a private group builds the arena and keeps all revenue in return. No outlays by the university or the public. They’re idea is really a good one.

The thing that would make LNC renovation make sense is allow commercial development on land either west or south of the arena. It's just in the middle of nowhere now and this would make it feel more connected and close.

The quality of basketball has been largely consistent for the last 25 years.

OU has sht fans, and this generation of student isn’t interested.

I disagree completely. When Hollis and that team was rolling, the crowds were good. Same with when Blake was here, then when Buddy was here. See a pattern? OU fans are spoiled by the football program being top 5 in the nation every year, and just want to have a basketball program capable of being competitive. Right now, OU is not, nor have they been since Buddy left, capable of winning anything of importance, aside from maybe the rare upset, and a 1st round NCAA tourney game.

Total bullsht about Buddy’s team. I was at many of those games and open seats all around. They’d show up for the big opponents.

Hollis and Griffin were a little better but it was pre-Thunder and students were more interested at that time. See football. Constant top 10 teams and pathetic student showings for 5 of the 6 home games this year.

OU started the last 2 seasons 23-2 and the arena has been empty.

‘OU only goes to the tournament every year
But that’s just not good enough for me to go to the game
Because when I put on my Walmart t-shirt I only want to be associated with a champion!
Like Switzer! Fire Vulnerables!’

A bunch of hicktown mouth-breathing disgraces.

Truth. Let's be honest, the team could win 50 straight games and lots of "fans" still wouldn't show up to games even if they were played in their front yard. It's so obnoxious to hear people say it is about quality of play. No, we aren't Duke or Kansas or Kentucky. But, we are better on a consistent basis than all but about 15-20 programs. And as you note, the students don't even support one of the best football programs in the country.

I bought a season ticket starting in the '02-03 season. Hollis and Quannas were seniors coming off a FF season and we started the year in the top 10. Without even having to make a significant contribution, I was able to buy a seat in the eighth row. If we truly had great fan support when the team is sufficiently"good" for the frontrunners, I would never have been able to do that.

I know my rant won't accomplish anything, I'm just sick of hearing people bad-mouth the program and claim we don't have more fans because we aren't "competitive."

I leave in Norman and the city screwed up not voting for the new proposal last yr, would have been nice and the location with restaurants, hotels and shopping would have helped with attendance, hopefully in a few years the university will go about trying to propose a new bill to be voted on

Something I guess I don't understand about LNC. Why can't you, in the off season, bull doze all of the risers and seats. Then you build new ones closer to the court. Moving everything closer to the court would give you more room at the top. You can then build luxury boxes there.

You would get a smaller arena with better site lines and luxury boxes. What am I missing here?

Also, why would Texas or OU for that matter have any money problems? You and Texas make more money from football than anyone else in the conference. Where's it all go?

It goes back to football facilities. New locker rooms, new indoor practice facility, new weight room, bowl in the stadium, 2 new video boards, about to upgrade the press box. The administration just doesn't care about upgrading/replacing the LNC
