The No. 1 Westmoore girls had their tournament title hopes and five-game winning streak halted in a 69-59 loss to Class 4A No. 3 Newcastle in the final of the Newcastle tournament Saturday.
The Racers (15-2), who defeated Class 4A No. 2 Chickasha 49-43 in their semifinal Friday, used strong perimeter shooting to snatch away the victory with a 21-12 fourth quarter edge. The Racers also were able to hold Westmoore’s leading scorer Jessi Murcer, who averages more than 20 points per game, to just 16.
“It was a close ballgame,” Andrea Guziec said. “We had a run, they’d have a run. They just had the late run … They made their free throws. We just didn’t score enough on the other end.”
