Officiating

That is one reason not to be in a conference with teams from Texas. They think they won.

No, they won. At least the scoreboard says that they did - thanks, refs!
Anytime that you have the officiating crew on you side, you're almost certain to win.

This one ranks up there at the top for official bad jobs. Send this tape to B12 and ask for an explanation of what is a charge.u

If I were Sherry I would file a written complaint to the Big 12 then go see Boren and ask him to make the complaint formal and let the big 12 know we will not continue to allow gross neglegance in officiating where the officials control the outcome of our games when the players cannot successfully do so. We need to leave the big 12 and find another league that does not cater to the texas schools.

I do not think you could sell the "gross negligence" idea.

What is needed is to require officials to answer questions in public about calls sometime after the game. Allow the press to show clips of really bad calls and require the officials to explain why more of those favor one team than the other.

The effect would be to create motivation for officials to get the calls right. Otherwise they look pretty foolish later. It would also bring out in the open the situations where certain officials help or hurt particular teams on a regular basis. Of course, that won't happen since it makes it far too clear the impact some officials have on the outcome of games - and all leagues are doing everything in their power to obscure that fact.

The problem is not that officials make mistakes at times - everybody does. The problem occurs when you can know how it is going to turn out as soon as the officials are assigned - based on past performance.

I thought the officiating was fine, We are just not so smart on the defensive end.

The officiating was appalling - and not just on the defensive end. OU player dribbling through the paint on the way to score, Texas player runs in front of OU player and is knocked aside. OU called for a foul. Ball goes to Texas. This happened multiple times. ?

Watched some of the UK/MU men. 54 fouls called. Nothing but whistles. I'm getting tired of it everywhere.

The new rules about hand-checking has effected the game at all levels! I've watch high school games that have been plague with fouls!!! It's the new norm fouls, fouls, fouls!!! Basketball is not a non-contact sport I wish they would realize that! I have had SEX that was rougher than last nights game!!!! :facepalm

They will surely learn but there isnt much to be learned from arbitrary, poor officiating. You never know how to play so it's hard to adjust.

YIKES...How you doin' ?

The officiating is never good in the womens game. We lost. It was not the referees fault. Nobody on here said the referees won last Saturdays game against Taco Tech for us when we shot 35 free throws to their 9 and won by 6 points. I am as disappointed as everyone on here that we did not win lAST NIGHT. If it was worse than usual I would expect Coale to be on their case all night. I did not see that.

Best game Texas has played in a while. Evident Atkins and Stafford are healthier now. Even with that we hung in there and almost pulled it out. No shame at all in this loss.

Coale doesn't challenge the officials much. Really doesn't work them at all. I felt during the game that Texas was getting the edge on calls a little bit. But the killer was the last foul on Carter. The defensive player was almost undercutting her and definitely still moving in front of her. Very bad call at a crucial time. Also a bad illegal screen call on Sharane for her last foul but that was almost a blessing because she was not contributing at that time. But that is what you get away from home especially in the womens game.

I agree that Coale does not work the officials as much as I would like. It seems like she has mellowed out in that aspect the last 3 or 4 years. I wondered if maybe Castiglione told her to tone it down some. I do not want a Mulkey, but I wish she would stay after them more than she does. Some on here say Mulkey gets calls because she always stays after them.

I was at the game and during the timeouts, Sherri was all over the refs. She was also fairly demonstrative on the sidelines. You just couldn't see it on TV.
