Gabrielle Ortiz ‏@g_RAEted21 1m

Committed to the University of Oklahoma! Can't wait to join the family! #BoomerSooner 🏀

Yay!!! This made my day! Welcome!

Great pick up, looking forward to seeing her play in the crimson and cream. Welcome to the Sooner family Gabbi. :woot

This is excellent news. Great, now where are the bigs? I noticed that Kortney Dunbar "favorited" that tweet. I hope that she'll follow suit and commit as well. If she and Asia Robeson commit, we would be in great shape for the next five years or so.

Sooner football wins, Ortiz commits.........I can hardly stand it!!

As most of you know, I think a statue should be built in front of Lloyd Noble to honor DRob. She was such a great player at OU. But, from everything I've read and seen, I think Gabbi could very well be a better all-around PG than DRob was and that's saying a ton! No, I don't expect her to be a scoring machine like DRob was although I think she can be in the 10-15 range in most games once she settles into D-1 ball. No, I don't think she can defend at the level of DRob who was an exceptional defensive player. But, I think she plays with a high motor, can score when needed, can run the break, great ball handler, defend at an above average level, and can distribute the ball with the best point guards in the country. It's the latter that will be an essential part of her game IF we can get movement without the ball from the other four players on the court. I believe Whitney would have LOVED to play with Gabbi because Gabbi would have found her breaking across the paint with her accurate passing. I just hope Danni Williams and some other top recruits in the country will see the benefit of coming to OU to play with Gabbi.

I think her game will have a lot of flash like samantha prahalis, our players better be ready to catch her passes.

It is interesting that someone named Moore had an evaluation on ESPN's site that suggested that Ortiz struggled at times under pressure. That is the only evaluation that doesn't suggest that she is the controller in most situations. But, that same "scout" suggested that she could play off guard because of her stroke.

From what I've seen on video, she is a master ball control. She seems to dart in and out of traffic with her dribbling, sure that she had control at all times. If there is a question, it may be her shooting stroke in the sense that it begins a little low. But, she is a 46% shooter from three.

I still remember one game that I saw on video when she was a freshman. The game was to have featured Samantha Logic and someone else. But, it was obvious that Ortiz was the one who had control of the game. Even then, against pretty solid talent, her ability to handle the ball pretty much dominated the game. a couple of others did get D-1 scholarships, but it was Ortiz who was the force in the game, and she did it without shooting much at all. I don't even remember her shooting. I do remember that she controlled the ball and that the other team had difficulty keeping it from her. I think it was a game for the Wisconsin state title.

I dont get much from film, but from what I've read, I'm excited about this girl. However, it does make me want a big even more. The girls coming in - all guards - make a big(especially a center) seem critical. I still like KK as a power forward(I'm stubborn).

I'm never as concerned about recruiting bigs as most of you are, figuring Sherri will get what she needs. But, I did find the timing of the Ortiz commitment to be interesting. Who was visiting this weekend? Usually, kids tend to make commitments at school on Monday or Tuesday. Making a commitment on a Saturday morning was interesting timing.
