Oklahoma Team Notes

Oklahoma fell to 6-2 on the year with its 81-78 defeat at Arkansas. It was OU's first loss in three true road games this season.

The game marked OU's sixth away from home in its last seven contests. It was the Sooners' sixth game in 13 days.

Oklahoma shot a season-high .554 from the field (previous high was .474 vs. West Virginia). However, the Sooners allowed Arkansas to shoot an opponent-season-high .526 (previous high allowed was .473 at Oral Roberts). OU entered the game shooting .403 and UA entered the game shooting .429.

Oklahoma took a 6-2 lead with the help of a pair of dunks by Amath M'Baye, but Arkansas answered with 7 straight points to go up 9-6. The Sooners didn't lead again until Steven Pledger hit a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left in the game to put them up 78-77.

Arkansas sophomore guard B.J. Young hit the game-winning shot with 14.7 seconds remaining. Averaging 21.4 points entering the game, Young finished with a season-low 10 points on 4-for-12 shooting. He handed out 8 assists while committing just 1 turnover.

Arkansas junior forward Marshawn Powell scored a career-high 33 points on 11-for-17 field goal and 4-for-6 3-point shooting. He entered the game 3-for-10 from 3-point range on the year.

Oklahoma senior forward Romero Osby scored a season-high 22 points (most by a Sooner this season) even though he came off the bench for the first time in his 39 games at OU. He made 9 shots on 12 attempts in his 26 minutes but missed the potential 18-foot game-winner in the waning seconds.

The Sooners lost for the first time this year when outrebounding their opponent (31-26 in favor of OU on the glass tonight).

Arkansas converted its 6 second-half offensive rebounds into 12 points.

M'Baye's 14 points were his second most as a Sooner. He was 6-for-10 from the floor and tied Osby for team-high rebounding honors with 6.

Pledger had gone 4-for-16 from 3-point range over the previous four games but was 4-for-7 tonight to finish with 12 points. He moved into 30th place on OU's all-time scoring list (passed Damon Patterson and is now 1 point behind Terry Stotts with 1,013 points). Pledger ranks fifth on the school's career 3-pointers list (2 behind Tony Crocker with 196).

Thanks in part to Osby's 22 points, OU's bench scored a season-high 41 points tonight (to Arkansas' 22). OU's previous high was 37 in the season-opening win over ULM.

Oklahoma is off until Dec. 15 when it faces Texas A&M in the All-College Classic in Oklahoma City. The game will start at 1 p.m. CT and be televised by ESPNU.

Re: OU-Arkansas Box Score

Youth at the guards hurt us. Hornbeak and Heild had 7 total turnovers. Heild 3 in 8mins.

Bad thing about our Seniors, they won't be back next year. But at least our freshmen will be sophmores.

The way I look at it is Osby and MBaye should be the minimum we should recruit for bigs. No more Fitzs. We return MBaye, Spangler is eligible, the 2 juco bigs, and 3 SO guards along with a real solid FR PG. much better days ahead.

We lose Osby Fitz and Pledger...we replace them with a freshman guard and 2 juco post players and Spangler(Huge down grade). The following year we lose Clark, Neal and M'Baye and replace them with?

Not one juco has done anything. We have a senior juco PG lose his minutes to a turnover freshman machine. We have a Juco SR C that doesn't play. We have a Juco Center redshirting b/c he can't even beat out Aren't and Neal for post minutes(or whatever excuse you want to give him for not playing) and we have 2 more juco players coming in that we should expect to be what?

I lost you. That's ok. We'll be alright.
