OU WBB Discussion & Thoughts

I saw Chavez got Sooner freshman of the year at the Sooner awards last night. How many think that should have gone to Wells?
I think it would be hard to give it to a player whose season isn’t over yet. Also ESPN named Chavez as national women’s basketball freshman of the year. They may very well give the same honor to Wells, but that’s a few weeks away. The MsProudSooner Award would probably be a tie between the two of them.

This is what AI says:

Based on the 2025-2026 Sooner Sports Awards voted on by Oklahoma student-athletes, key winners included Women's Gymnastics (Female Team of the Year), Men's Gymnastics (Male Team of the Year), Faith Torrez (Female Senior), and Fuzzy Benas (Male Senior). Other top honors went to K.J. Kindler (Coach), Aaliyah Chavez (Female Rookie), and Courtland Guillory (Male Rookie). [1]

Things have gone silent on these boards. Is the roster finalized and what is it exactly?

Here is a link to the roster...I think all the P4 level players in the portal have decided where they will play next year so this should be our final roster

Thanks. Looks like OU has good overall size. Hopefully the new bigs collectively fill the void left by Beers. She was a bulwark in the middle for 2 years.
Perhaps the best since Courtney.

I think between the two of them, what we have coming back and the incoming freshman we should be a deeper, more athletic team that is able to execute the run and gun offense JB likes to a better efficiency than when we had Beers. Rebounding could be concern, but hopefully they are up for it! Excited to see how all the new players mix in with the returners. Could be rough at first but eventually should be a very solid team!

Says the key is Chavez development after a near freshman of the year season. Sahara is an underrated solid player.

Sa’Myah Smith and Isi Ozzy-Momodu are the two pieces that may determine Oklahoma’s true ceiling this season. But Baranczyk is confident that, although different, this year’s frontcourt will find success.

“She’s somebody that can score in different ways, she can guard in different ways, she can run the floor and she was really excited to play the way that we play,” Baranczyk said of Smith.

She brings SEC experience, physicality and a winning mindset that should help anchor this team.

Ozzy-Momodu is the other interior piece to monitor. She averaged eight points and 6.4 rebounds in 21 starts at Maryland last season and will boost the new-look frontcourt.

“People feel like we only work with a big center like Raegan,” Baranczyk said. “I’m used to positionless, I’m used to everybody does everything. We’re kind of all a bunch of tweeners that play basketball. You play to your strengths and everybody else’s.”

Ozzy-Momodu’s rebounding instincts are what excite Baranczyk most.

“Her back-to-basket game, her rebounding,” she said. “She can just move. And she was coming off an injury too, so I’m really excited about her.”

The other area to monitor is the general youth of this group. That can certainly be a strength in mindset and fearlessness, but with several battle-tested teams in the SEC, it may take time for the Sooners to reach their peak.

“It’s a young group that’s going to have to learn how to play together and kind of figure things out,” Baranczyk said. “A few years ago you kind of saw it with Skylar and that group – they just kind of figured out themselves and happened to win a couple of Big 12 championships. That’s kind of how I feel about this group.”

We still have 2 assistant spots open....I won't have any expectations until they get filled. The roster is what it is, but the returning players had major weaknesses and low basketball IQ. That can be helped with quality coaching, which, given OU hasn't really taken that next step in 3 years, is under fire.

Low IQ? Can’t be serious.

Seems like OU shouldn't have that much trouble getting good assistants. Jenny has a solid future at OU, having the staff let go is not an issue.
Our program has been on the rise the past couple of years, not elite but at a good level so the opportunities here are excellent.

It always takes longer than the fans think it should.
