The women's gymnastics team failed to record the highest score in qualifying for the super-six. It was the first time this season they failed to record the highest score in an event. Both LSU (198.275) and Florida (197.8125) had higher scores than the Sooners (197.725).

Both the higher scores came in the evening session and had different judges than did OU whose score came in the afternoon session. The Sooners while favored in multiple individual events had only two individuals (Lehrman and Nichols) tie with 4 others on the uneven parallel bars for their only individual championship. #2 LSU had 3 individual wins/ties for national championships.

Fortunately for the Sooners, as I understand it, the semifinal team scores are not carried forward, however I have not been able to verify this in writing. If correct, the Sooners (197.725) do not have to start the evening trailing LSU (198.275) by 0.55 which would be a massive lead as team scoring starts over for the finals.

OU scored better than 198.275 only once this season and that was against LSU, Georgia and Missouri in mid-February when the scored 198.350 to LSU's 197.700 and won all four events.

In the semifinals LSU got on a roll and out scored OU on 3 of the 4 events with OU winning only parallel bars and LSU taking the floor, beam and vault. The Sooners are going to have to step it up Saturday night. But we know they can do it as they thumped LSU in February.

K.J. Kindler's comments were: "It was tough out there for us. We started a little bit shaky on floor, lots of adrenaline and little extra steps. There were some uncharacteristic mistakes, but I think they were definitely working out some jitters that they had. We sort of settled in on vault and just got better as the day went on. We are really looking forward to tomorrow and having a chance to fight for a National Championship.”

OU wins the national championship in a run away with a 198.3875. LSU finishes second with a 197.7375. The gives the Sooners 3 national championships in the last 4 years. The 198.3875 is the highest winning score ever recorded in the gymnastics finals. Bart Conners said the Sooners hit 31 of their 36 landing.

As a side note OU fans which has a strong dislike as they rank right up there with Texas. LSU has been the runner up to all three of OU's national championship and have never won the championships. Kindlers Kid's are doing their job.

Technically, LSU finished third in 2014 with Florida and OU tying for first. I think they came into the evening with high hopes which were crushed by their performances in the first two rotations. LSU loses three key seniors, especially Gnat. We lose three key, especially Capps. But, both programs are on the upswing. They just recruited Mary Lou Retton's daughter. Of course, we got some good ones coming in. LSU will be a worthy number two for several years to come.

I'm convinced that OU has the best coach in women's gym. This is great news.

No question K.J. competing against the SEC schools and the Pac 12 schools as a member of the Big 12 conference is a major disadvantage for Kinder. She is definitely one of if not the best women's gymnastic coach in the country.

While K.J. has won 3 of the last 4 Florida's Rhonda Faehn has won 3 of the last 5 championships.

I agree technically LSU finished 3rd in 2014 but the NCAA does list LSU as the runner up in 2014.

I'll take 3 of 4 any time over 3 of 5.

The history of women's gymnastics is essentially two teams that propel each other to excel. Utah won the early years. Since then, it has largely been a battle between Georgia and Alabama with UCLA interjecting at times. The hatred of Geogia and Alabama for each other fed the programs. It has only been in the past five years that Florida and Oklahoma have become rivals, and they will probably compete for the title again next year. LSU seems to want to compete. But, they haven't made it to the top yet.
