$3 billion. Bigger than even the SEC. $21 million per year guaranteed for every team and they retained the rights to create their own network.

New PAC-12 commissioner Larry Scott is very sophisticated. Can you imagine the contract he would have landed if the PAC-16 would have included OU, Texas, A&M and Kansas?

I still think that for the future of our athletic programs moving to a super conference specifically the PAC was the best deal. IMO moving now while Bob Stoops has this thing ROLLING was in our best interest especially if it appears that moving somewhere is eventually inevitable which I believe is the case.

And we're still on the sinking ship...

Or, more accurately, we're not.

The Big 12 just got a $1.2 billion deal for the league's secondary broadcast rights.

The Pac 12 deal just announced is for the league's primary and secondary broadcast rights.

The Big 12's primary broadcast rights are locked up by ESPN/ABC through 2016... and based on everything we're seeing, it's well below the going market rate. Heck, the new secondary deal is worth more money than the current primary deal.

So when that deal comes due, we'll be getting a huge bump - probably in the $2-3 billion range for the primary rights. More than likely it will be similar to the Pac 12 - a combination of Fox and ESPN/ABC.

And we have two fewer teams than the Pac 12, which means the schools will be getting a larger piece of a larger pie.

This.

Comparing the Pac 10's new deal to our recent deal isn't comparing apples to apples. Once we're able to get the new deal for the primary rights figured out, we'll be on even footing (or better) with everyone.

Or by 2016 the conference could no longer exist

Over the next four seasons we'll make less than every other BCS conference in the country. That's a fact.

And, unlike other conferences the Big 12 is a rich-get-richer-, poor-get-poorer setup. A&M, OU and UT will lap the other Big 12 schools in revenue. (More than before)

Here are the raw numbers: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/stewart_mandel/07/24/tv-deals/index.html

Of course replace the old PAC10 numbers with the new PAC12 numbers. Same with the ACC.

Even if we triple our TV deal we'll be behind the PAC12, BIG10 and SEC.

Teams leave for other conferences. same thing that happened last summer

That is my point. The teams that are driving the bus (OU, UT and A&M) are making too much money to leave and no one is going to poach ISU and Baylor. With the new deal, the Big XII is in a much stronger position than before. Not to mention that there is a huge buyout to leave.

That doesn't have the Big XII's new deal with Fox.

Put it in there. It's 1.3 billion.

Split between 10 teams. Most every other league is splitting between 12+ teams.

I know many of you want the Big XII to die, but it isn't going to happen.

It's a very fragile entity. The only thing it has working for it is, 1.) Texas basically runs the conference so they're not likely to leave, and 2.) ESPN/FOX/CBS will do most anything to avoid a super conference structure so they can avoid a playoff system.

I'm just hoping that the marquee assets of the Big XII join the Pac-16.

With OU, Texas, A&M and Kansas going to the Pac-16 the BigABD conference would remain. It would be exciting for ABD to have a conference of his favorite underdog programs. OSU, ISU, Mizzou, Texas Tech, KSU. One of them would actually win it.

its more likely to die than survive. The tv networks will only support us until the can negotiate with super conferences. Once they work out TV contracts with them then they will no longer have a need for a 10 team conference. Therefore, if we do stay together than we are just like the Mountain West, WAC, and all the other mid major conferences. The only reason texas stayed is because at the time the Pac 10,12,16 was not going to let them have their own network. The plan was for them to build the network then go to another conference and already have it, then the new conference wouldn't shut it down

If it dies, it dies.

Ah man, that would suck. Why would it benefit OU to play in the Pac 16? OU is in a fantastic position right now for BCS Championship opportunities.

I don't root for TV contracts and money that I will never see... I pull for OU to win, and I also like our regional rivals. I dont give a crap about USC, Washington State, UCLA, Oregon State, etc.

I would rather see the this league add more teams than ditch for another league. Add Memphis, South Florida, Central Florida, and TCU and you add a football power, a basketball power, and some new TV markets. AND OU remains top dog.

OU without OSU, UT/A&M without Baylor/TT and kansas without ksu isn't going to happen.

Some of those schools may be able to leave without taking the other in-state program(s) along, but not all of them.

How would it benefit OU playing in the Pac-16? Adding California to our Texas recruiting in football? Games vs USC and Oregon in football, UCLA and Arizona and basketball instead of games vs Texas Tech, Iowa State and Missouri?

Please.

Plus remember I live in Scottsdale.
