20 minutes later, no one on the OU beat has reported this. News travels slowly.

Anyway, need an assistant hot board lol.

Is there such thing as an OU basketball beat lol?

Ha, not really and I'm just being an a-word. People have things to do and it's Saturday.

Some names:

Matt Gordon - currently on the OU staff as the special asst to Moser/director of scouting. Was an assistant at Loyola last year.

Clayton Custer - currently on the OU staff as the director of video operations and player development. Obviously a Moser player/guy.

Quannas White - currently an assistant at Houston

Hollis Price - currently the special asst to Sampson

Jermaine Kimbrough - currently an assistant at Arizona St. Was with Moser at Loyola

Bennie Seltzer - currently an assistant at Texas St. Worked with Moser at Loyola and was an OU assistant under Sampson

Well this sucks. Are we going to lose any of the 3 incoming recruits?

Moser loses his top 2 assistants after one year. Not good.

Shouldn’t. American guys are Dildy.

Schroeder? Idk. But he isn’t going from Ou to sac state.

Dildy recruited Uzan and Oweh? I was wondering who was responsible for those guys. I was wondering about Dildy as a recruiter. That's good news.

Yeah hopefully Schroeder stays. I'm really excited about him.

Benny is the guy we have to watch now, obviously...but I don't see him going to Sac St and I'm not sure who else would want him this late. But I'll be honest, I'm forgetting who else recruited him (not sure it was publicized or if I just can't remember). Probably better for him to stay in the fold. I guess we'll see.

On the current roster, Mawein is a Patrick kid from Australia as we all know. Mawein is better than Sac St but could go and likely start?

I bet Patrick lands Callum McRae. A big 7-footer transferring from UC Riverside and builds his team around him.

This is a big loss. We aren’t going to make significant impact with elite national players but Patrick gave us a chance at grabbing elite international guys. I’m starting to wonder if Moser wishes he stayed at loyola...

Doubtful. He will be fine.

Ok. Whoever dug up a sacred burial ground or whatever to cause this endless string of bad luck for OU basketball, PLEASE make it stop. This is ridiculous.

If we never had an assistant coach leave to become a head coach, you guys would whine that our assistants were so bad that no other teams wanted them.

I agree that these coaching defections are disappointing. But I don't understand all the doom and gloom. Moser is paid millions of dollars to deal with stuff like this. He's been coaching for over 30 years and i'd hope would have a rolodex of contingencies for this situation. If he and Dildy have to tag team getting the two portal guys then that's what they'll do. Next year's recruiting class will be huge so he does need to get some guys in place stat. I'm pretty sure, though, that OU isn't the only program losing assistants.

I'm still really excited about the future and i'm sure he is too.

Typically you lose assistants off the back of a deep tournament run like what happened under Lon. We didn’t even make the tournament this year. Imo it is completely justified to be upset about losing a couple high end assistants already.

Like CoachTalk says, "Porter is a grinder". There's no reason to be upset/down about this. It gives Porter an opportunity (or two when the KT news becomes official). Listening to recent Moser interviews, he wasn't happy with this season. He's going to try his best to get it right.

Porter definitely knew before we knew and he's been in New Orleans (with so many other coaches/agents/etc) having conversations surely.

I'm weird, not that I would say I wanted to lose Patrick or KT, but I like newness/change. I think it brings excitement. Something to follow, something to look forward to.

Or to schools better than Sac State.

Being an assistant at OU should be a better job than being the HC at Sac State. That MIGHT be a slight exaggeration, but not by much.

Patrick's situation is weird. He was the HC at UC Riverside. He took them from terrible to competent in two seasons. He left on his own accord IIRC to become a P5 assistant at Arkansas & then Oklahoma. Now, he's falling back down or whatever you'd want to call it. Unless Sac St is building a new arena that I'm totally unaware of, it's kind of a strange trajectory to go from UCR, P5 assistant jobs, and now to a school with an "arena" that seats 1k people.

Maybe he just wants to go back to being a HC. Who really knows. He should do well, though.

It is an opportunity, but moser needs to hire some great recruiters. We need a massive talent upgrade across the board. The Big12 is tough and the SEC is getting tougher every day. If we’re not getting better, then we’re falling further behind.

Personally, i wouldn't mind a season or two without major changes. Every program needs some stability. Revamping the staff every year (not saying that'll happen, but this is two years in a row now the program has seen major staffing changes) hardly seems the ideal path toward progress.

I don't disagree.

For starters, I'd think about hiring Jamion Christian at one spot (or trying)...who was fired at George Washington. He'd help secure transfer Joe Bamisile and possibly Brayon Freeman (depends on the roster spots available - need a big). He was a decent head coach. The biggest problem with him is he's been exclusive to the NE/East coast.
