Paying college athletes

Seems to me there should be a few other things provided/supported by the NCAA for all students that are on athletic scholarship/grant in aid:
1. Mandatory training regarding budgeting and money management of all financial aid.
2. Stipend specifically earmarked for personal needs such as clothing, personal toiletries and other basic needs.
3. Guarantee tuition, books, fees for up to 1 additional year beyond eligibility to complete undergrad degree if not earned during eligibility of sport.
4. Stop the sale of any jersey baring the number of any current student-athlete for that sport ...OU probably made a killing on basketball jerseys when CParis and BGriffin were both number 3. Heck, I bought one! But they didn't get a dime.
5. Place students on an incentive plan for academic excellence, obtaining degree, excelling in the post season, etc with funds placed aside in an interest bearing account until after GRADUATION, distributed at 50% at graduation and the other 50% after one year of graduation.
6. If a student has the talent and/or ability to become an entrepreneur/start their own business during their eligibility, it should be permitted (such as an invention, a small business) AND it should not affect their scholarship/grant-in-aid via NCAA. They obviously will not be eligible for PELL Grants, etc...but who cares if they develop a Fortune 500 company while playing football at OU!

IMHO!

So you actually believe he was "starving"? They could get food from 7to7, must not known the way.

Don't know that I would call it "starving", but I ain't one to judge when I was not there! BUT...I do know that there are many student-athletes that do not have access to the meal plans on campus due to living off campus. Their room/board has to cover the meals/food as well, but when you have to buy your own clothes, deodorant, toothpaste, laundry detergent, sheets, towels, salt, pepper, whatever...the food budget may start to get a little low. AND if you are living in the dorm and your meal plan only covers a certain amount of meals...closes at 7:00 and you return from the game at midnight...well, you might be a little hungry, even "starving". I have to believe that he has had some challenges meeting his basic needs.

Just a picky little correction here--CP3 and Blake Griffin NEVER wore #3 at the same time for the Sooners. In fact, Blake never wore a number other than #23. Courtney did share the number and the nickname "CP3" with Chris Paul when he played for the NBA Hornets during the time they were in Oklahoma City (2005-2007, I believe).

You're right...another school I had in mind that only offered "3" one year. OU ONLY OFFERED basketball jerseys with 3 or 23 during CParis' senior year and the last year that BGriffin was at OU. I believe it was that way the previous year as well.
