Quincy Wadley commits to Oklahoma, becomes highest-rated recruit of Moser era
Oklahoma lands four-star guard Quincy Wadley, the No. 43 player in the 2026 class and the highest-rated recruit of Porter Moser's tenure with the Sooners.

The Sooners have landed Quincy Wadley, the top available recruit in the 2026 class, sources tell Sooners Illustrated.

Wadley, the No. 43 overall player in the class, becomes the highest-rated recruit Porter Moser has landed at Oklahoma according to the 247Sports rankings. He is Oklahoma's highest-rated signee since Trae Young in 2017.

The 6-foot-4 guard, originally from Arlington, VA, spent his senior season at AZ Compass, one of the top prep programs in the country. Wadley was a major priority for Justin Scott and the Sooners, who hosted him for an official visit on Wednesday and were able to seal the deal during the trip.

Wadley averaged 11.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 18 games at AZ Compass. Last summer on the Pro16 circuit, he flashed not only as a scorer, but also as a rebounder and defender, averaging 6.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game.

He is a microwave scorer with really good positional size and length that shows up on the glass and defensive end. Wadley has the physical tools to contribute right away in the SEC, though he will likely need to continue getting stronger physically.

Offensively, he should be able to provide Oklahoma with instant scoring off the bench as long as he can limit the turnovers and poor shot selection, two areas that still need development. The upside here is significant. Injuries slowed parts of his development previously, but Oklahoma now gets the opportunity to unlock that potential.

Wadley joins Gage Mayfield in Oklahoma's 2026 recruiting class. Between Wadley, ranked No. 43 nationally, and Mayfield, ranked No. 74, Moser has now landed two of the top six recruits of his Oklahoma tenure and two of the top-10 highest-rated signees Oklahoma has landed since 2016.

The pair gives Oklahoma a ton of long-term upside, while both also possessing the ability to contribute immediately. Wadley projects primarily at the two and three, while Mayfield, more of a wing-forward, will play the three and four.

This should round out Oklahoma's additions expected to be contributors, as the Sooners now have three remaining roster spots that are expected to go toward depth pieces.

Oklahoma has added Wadley and Mayfield from the high school ranks, Akoldah Gak from the G League, and Pop Isaacs, Khani Rooths, Tyler Hendricks, and Yaak Yaak from the transfer portal, while also retaining Xzayvier Brown, Derrion Reid, Dayton Forsythe, and Kai Rogers.

To be fair only Atak did anything while at OU . Even then he was a one trick pony. Outside shooter who did not play d , rebound , create, drive or pass .

IMO guys like Brody do a disservice when they post about him being the highest rated recruit Moser has signed. Everyone knows, if they aren’t being disingenuous, that Fears was universally considered a better prospect. Obviously his rating was skewed by how late he reclassified, but he was still viewed as a better prospect even though no one realized he was a one-and-done. By hyping him up like this, Lusk and others are trying to praise Moser for what they claim is a great offseason, but it definitely puts a bright spotlight on the kid and ramps up the expectations.

Think of it this way: when Fears announced his decision, it was front page news on ESPN’s website. Think about that — OU basketball had done nothing for three years under Moser, but Fears was a big enough deal that his decision was one of the top stories of the day, not just on college basketball boards, but on a massive sports website.

Opinions seem to be all over the place on this kid. I’m excited we got him but will have very modest expectations going into the season. If he can come close to matching what Los did as a freshman, I’ll be thrilled.

Factually it’s not wrong. Regardless of what you feel about fears or wadley.

Fears went to college a year younger than most kids do and when he did it dropped his ranking.

What are the varying opinions you are seeing?Raw freak athlete combo guard. Top 50 players aren’t perfect but haven’t seen anyone but @Seymore Cox recruiting service say anything but positives. Are there some questions. Absolutely. All have them

I don’t think Moser’s problem has been recruiting or finding great portal additions. It’s been retention issues (no money) and coaching. Solve the retention problem, which we did this year, and maybe we get late season PM teams .. which absolutely would make the tourney every year. Then it’s a discussion of ceiling .. which historically for him is the FF. Or we get his avg to low points and still miss the tourney lol.

I disagree that retention has been his problem. He just does not coach his players well..

His guard retention has been pretty bad, but I agree with this take.

And coaching is probably a big reason guards jump ship after two years or so in the system.

As bad of a coach as some on here think he is…I seriously doubt players are leaving because of their view of his coaching ability. Not in the NIL world. Atak would have stayed if we met his number. I guess when we didnt, he thought to himself…I bet the VT coach can coach me better. I don’t think so.

We can agree to disagree on that. I think Atak stays if he wasn’t benched during large parts of the nine game losing streak.

It sounded like Atak was ready to stay from right before the portal opened. I imagine the reality was he wanted a bigger role than we thought we could provide him. If we didn’t think he could improve on defense, then it makes sense. It’s frustrating though because he’s so exciting to watch on the offensive end.

To my knowledge, he was going to stay until his circle gave OU a number that they weren't willing to meet. Had nothing to do with his role or Moser's coaching. He took the money to go to VA Tech, and I don't blame him for doing what's best for his situation and family.

Maybe so, but how many of those games did we win while he was benched?? I didn't want to see Atak leave, but let's be honest, he was a one trick pony. He shot the 3 ball very well...and that was it. He couldn't defend or couldn't drive his guy to the hole. He is what he is. I hope he makes it to the next level..and he might with his height and shooting ability. My point is these players aren't looking at coaches as good or bad imo. If that were the case...how are we landing any decent recruits?? These kids are chasing $...and tbh, they are chasing the $'s more than I thought some would when this whole NIL debacle started.

Quite the opposite.

Man in this era, getting a 50 to 100 high school kid is a loss. A transfer is a win. The clown brody is spinning bs. You are too.
