Woodard needs to start playing like he did last year. I'm not concerned about him because I know what kind of player he is, but he's just been way too careless at times. What has given me a lot of enthusiasm is the fact he has a really good back-up in Walker. I really like Walker.
Buddy Hield is a star. He is so much fun to watch. The sky is the limit with him. He just needs to keep shooting.
Lattin can flat out rebound the basketball! However, he needs to work on just about everything else. He's a raw talent, but with some development, he's going to be a really good one. I hope he starts to pass on the 18 foot jump shots, though. And the free-throws. Oh dear. Please work on the free-throws!
Booker isn't shooting the ball well, but he knows his role, and I have no problem with his role. Just keep firing it up, Frank. They'll start to fall sooner or later. We need a three point specialist, because it really forces the other team to defend you a lot differently when you have a guy like Booker. I have no problem with the fact Frank is one dimensional. What I do know is that when he's hitting shots, he can really fill it up.
Thomas needs to pick it up. We should all cut him some slack because of his circumstance, but he is playing far below his ability and expectations. It's probably unfair the type of expectations that have been put on him, but his performance thus far this season has been forgettable. And I mean that literally. I sometimes forget he is on the floor. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?! The man is a load. He should be dominating the interior of these games. I'm tired of watching him float around the perimeter. I want to see him get on the blocks and bang around a little bit more like Spangler. He's averaging four rebounds a game. That's three less than Cousins - totally unacceptable for a guy with Thomas' size & strength.
I just love Ryan Spangler. Love the way he plays the game. And the three point shot! My goodness it's looking good this year. I know he has shown he can shoot that shot before, but that's a big deal when your post player can step out and hit a three point shot. Thomas & Lattin need to a red light from the perimeter, but Spangler's light should be green.
I really do believe we are a better defensive basketball team this year. It's clear to me that we have worked on it, and hopefully, that will help get us to that next level. I am not worried about our ability to score.
I'm really excited about the Bahamas. We have the chance to really make a statement. I think our guys are going to be ready to play, and hopefully, this is where Thomas breaks out of his shell and Woodard & Cousins focus a little better. It shouldn't be this way - but it's hard to focus night in and night out against Northwestern State. Not the case when you're up against teams like UCLA & North Carolina. Hopefully, it brings out the best in us.
This is a really good basketball team. Whether they can be great is yet to be determined. I think we have the pieces to be great, but the BIG 12 is going to be a tough conference. Having said that, my expectations for this team are high. And it's been a while since we've had high expectations for a Sooner basketball team, so I'd say that it's a really good thing.
